you would only have to suss out the entire 1985 Teal Cup squad to get things started mate - Chris Stasinowsky (WP) was an outstanding Colt as was Kevin Taylor (EF) but then again I don't think Squizzy played too many early games before he was up hahaha

just remember a few diamond colts went pretty much straight to league and I'm sure Beas' will fill this bit in for you

Love looking at the old budgets that come up on footyfacts and have found it interesting the PERCENTAGE of colt and reserve players who DON’T end up playing league!!

Methinks a lot of resources used by clubs to field colts and reserves teams just to find a couple of potential league players.

I expect to be corrected but didn't Steve Da Rui and Trevor Malcolm debut on our HB line straight from colts. Peter Cransburg maybe another.

From a different post from me in regards to youngest debutants...

This list will give an idea of those that debuted pre-1987 direct from colts footy

Joe O'Neil in 'official night series' 1967 was 13yrs 4 months, we was named as the 19th man, never came on the field and never played another game.

In actual WAFL league games, the youngest was Stan Hussey. Hussey was just over 14 when called upon to play for Centrals against West Perth in August 1891 due to the non appearance of a number of the selected side. Stan Hussey was a promising junior but the decision to play him was strongly influenced by his brother Bertram who was club Captain. Stan Hussey subsequently played in all the remaining games of the 1891 season and went on to a long and outstanding career with Rovers and Perth. He died at the age of 95 in 1972.

Below lists 15 and some, not all 16 year olds that played league footy, there would be many more 17 and 18 year olds too

Others youngest
Des Miller (SF) 15yrs 210 days
Stan Magro (SF) 15y 257 d

Some other notables that played as a 16 year old:
Glen Jakovich (SF) 16y 15d
Dolph Heinrichs (EF) 16y 15d
Guy McKenna (C) 16y 56d
Daniel Wells (Peel) 16y 70d
Grant Campbell (EP) 16y 91d
Rhett Baynes (P) 16y 99d
Glen Rogers (EF) 16y 115d
Steven Armstrong (P) 16y 178d
Neil Balme (S) 16y 187d
Geoff Hendriks (WP) 16y 195d
Bruce Monteath (SF) 16y 196d
Bryan Cousins (P) 16y 222d
Richard Dennis (EP) 16y 239d
Les Fong (WP) 16y 247d
Stephen Coniglio (SD) 16y 249d
David Wirrpanda (EP) 16y 254d
Garth Taylor (SD) 16y 262d
Brad Hardie (SF) 16y 263d
Michael Gardiner (C) 16y 277d
Andrew McDougall (P) 16y 277d
Ben Cousins (EF) 16y 282d
Craig MacLean (EF) 16y 291d
Peter Sartori (SD) 16y 295d
John Gerovich (FS) 16y 325d
John Todd (SF) 16y 337d

Note: Data is in incomplete as we don't have all players date of births in particular prior to WWII.

Thanks for the list Rick.
Makes me think of Claremont. Power WAFL club from the late 70's through all the 1980's.I'm pretty sure they might of won 5 Colts GrandFinal in a row back then.

great posts guys, and hi to ric
there is a very low percentage of footballers whom make it
even in a good colts bunch it will be no more than four or five
Subi examples; between 77 and 79, Fussell would have been our best footballer; in 82 we got luckier -- warner, scott, mort, dean

i have always said, for this reason alone, it is irrational for the afl to draft colts players. It became the norm only because the Victorians wanted to avoid transfer fees

PS; Buckenara cost them 270 thousand or so, and, just for the record, he was not from our colts, either -- fluked him from the amateurs.

1999 Colts premiership 6 draftees
Darren Glass
Scott Stevens
Leon Davis
Chance Bateman
Richard Kelly
Ryan Hargreave

The only disappointment would have been Richard Kelly, spit out after 1 year by Carlton, although came back to PFC and gave a few years.
Champions Glass, Bateman & Davis, serviceable contributions from Stevens and Hargreave.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!
I shot the fukin sherriff!!!!
