Good to hear the WACA being upgraded. Will it be configured for football? Boutique 10000 capacity with the ability to increase by 50%...ie possible 15000. Would be great to see a WAFL grand final sold out here. Rather have a capacity at WACA than 20000 at Perth Stadium...what do you think?

Not for me.
GF should always be at the premier footy stadium,Optus.
The atmosphere with 20k - 26k at Optus these past few weeks at the stadium has been fantastic.

Absolutely could not agree more. Also for the players it could be the only time they experience the venue as a player.

I agree but do they allow 20 - 25000 at a WAFL grand final to use all levels or do they close off the top tiers and make everyone sit in the sun and rain?

Yes I think they did close off the top tier, maybe have a seating set up like it is now.
I haven’t heard of any complaints the way it is at the moment.

Ti Em I agree the players would absolutely love playing at the venue in the big one.

Sooner it happens the better

this is the ideal venue and solution for WAFL.

Optus is hopeless for WAFL GF,s last two have been dismal with under 20K there, out and out dud venue for a small crowd. Financially they lose a fortune there,

Give us the WACA as a perfect ( although 15K not ideal I would say 20K ) boutique smaller high quality footy venue, we need a second one in the city anyway as the much vaunted Leederville has never really worked.

A high quality venue with world class and good lights would allow us to go our own way with a possible night GF as well.

Spot on 30+ the WAFL GF needs to stay at Perth Stadium, if you asked all 500 current listed WAFL players they would all say they want to play there and they are the one's putting on the show and doing the hard yards each week. All the WAFL needs is 2 clubs aside of the poor drawing Subiaco & Claremont (not to mention Peelmantle) to actually reach the GF for a bloody change and 30k is achievable which is 20k more than the WACA can hold!

On the WACA they should be looking at getting a central based WAFL team to relocate there when it is lengthened again to a football sized ground but obviously the deal has to be better than the 1987-89 one when Perth & East Perth played there!

been here done all this before, the chances of getting a 30K plus crowd at a wafl GF these days are about as much as mine are of winning lotto, and in the rare event it does happen and a big crowd is expected then it can always be moved to Optus. Cant see that ever happening but anyway the option is there. there hasnt been a over 30k wafl crowd for 18 years!

And get back to the days of playing all finals at a finals venue - never liked the move to local grounds takes all the sense of occasion away.

East Perth should move to the WACA on a permanent basis on a better deal, wouldnt mind seeing WP getting back to Leedy.

The WAFC has long wanted to house itself at the WACA - and if it's paid for by other agencies they'll definitely try to stage games at the venue - the TV vantage points and lights already a lock and without the new stadium costs
Footy didn't have the same feel when games used to be played there I thought
and that surface will need to be "softened for winter sport" because it's hard as nails normally

Bazza having been working at the club when we went to the WACA the last time brings back not very pleasant memories and it has nothing to do wit the results.

The WACA fiefdom is in many ways makes the WAFC look like a great organisation to deal with!

We were not allowed any facilities for Past Players, trophies and the like. The grounds keepers would fertislise the playing surface the day before a game and leave it unwatered. The fertiliser created infections in simple skinnned knees and elbows that in some cases meant players missed games, the ground was as hard as concrete which then created all manner of soft tissue injuries then add to that the issue of heads hitting the pitch area. It was never that way for AFL games which I reckon they saw as a cash cow for the depleted funds! I worked as a trainer for quite few VFL teams in the 80's through the 90's at games there!

Parking was limited to not very many which meant that we all had to pay as did the spectators which then put many off.

I would gladly go there as long the WACA did the right thing about understanding that we would doing them the favour and not vise versa but I suspect they won't so .........!
