If you were setting up a WAFL nowadays rather than in 1885 it should look something similar to this-

1. North West Perth based team- (Cities of Joondalup & Wanneroo region, share part of City of Stirling with Central team) based at Arena Joondalup

2. North East Perth based team- (Swan Valley, Perth Hills, City of Swan, Kalamunda, Belmont, Mundaring,East of Tonkin Hwy to Welshpool Rd) based at Bassendean Oval

3. South East Perth based team- (Cities of Canning, Gosnells, Armadale + Byford, Canning Vale, Jandakot areas) based at Gosnells Oval or Cannington Showgrounds area

4. South West Perth based team- (Cities of Fremantle, Melville, Cockburn, West of Kwinana Fwy to Anketell Rd) based at Fremantle Oval

5. Western Suburbs Perth based team- (Cities of Claremont, Cottesloe, Nedlands, Subiaco, Cambridge, North Fremantle to Scarborough along coast) based at Claremont Oval

6. Central Perth based team- (Cities of Perth, South Perth, Vic Park, Vincent, (Mt Lawley, Morley, Bayswater, Mirrabooka) Kingsway area Most of City of Stirling shared with NW based team) based at Leederville Oval or WACA

7. Peel based team- (Mandurah, Rockingham, Kwinana, Murray, S/J, Waroona) based at Rushton Park

8. South West based team- (Bunbury, Busselton, Collie, Harvey, Eaton, Manjimup, Margerat River, Bridgetown) based at Hands Oval

Country zones would then be determined from there using the current regions (Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid West, Wheatbelt, Goldields, Esperance, Great Southern) although both the Peel & SW are already covered there.

Perth in 2020 (and WA) is obviously a lot different place to that in the late 1800s/early 1900s when the original WAFL 8 clubs came into existence where 7 of the 8 teams were based along a small stretch from Fremantle to Perth on that rail line (excluding Swan Districts and previous to them Midland Junction).

Teams would still keep their same colours and nickname eg Swans, Falcons, Demons, Tigers etc.

Thoughts everyone?

Not sure the SWFL was "raped" as you term it LS after the Eagles had started in 1987 as it has been long shared as the allotted country zone by SD, EP and in parts by WP (Collie, Harvey Brunswick in the mid 80s) since the late 1960s way before the WCE were even a thought?

An interesting story here www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-05/footy-in-...n-shutdowns/12123102 which focusses on the current state of the WAFL and SANFL.

Thank goodness for our ABC. :)

The WAFL should have...

15min quarters plus time on. Fit games in 2 hour time frames.

Have teams play each other twice in a season.

Allow bottom teams who've been near the bottom for the past 3 years in a row get an extra $200k to attract better performed players.

Have a top 4 no matter the amount of teams in the comp. 1 v 2 (double chance) 3 v 4 elimination.

Grand Final at the home of the team if they finished 1st and if ground can hold 10k or more people. Looking at South Fremantle, Subiaco, West Perth, East Perth. Play at WACA if it's any other team finished 1st.

Well, going forward, if there is a 9 team comp then it should be decided that there are 24 game season, top 4 finals series. 15min quarters plus time on.

Yep - like all the team concepts and its the way forward.

8 teams

I also like all of DURTLES ideas. Plus start the season a little earlier.

Don’t be bitter laddie. You and Durtle should catch up and discuss 15 minute quarters. I believe Beasley is making a great deal of sense as a WAFL supporter.

Once again the D....H....s at WAFL doing a wonderful job with their stats site updates

Reserves game WP Vs Subi
1/2 time
WP kicked 4 Goals - 4 Points
NOT ONE player has a single 'disposal'

Must be an amazing game to watch??
