Finally we have reached the halfway point of the season and it is a good time to sit back and relax for some, not for MrM though he is hard at work as ever and looking forward to the back half of the season. Last week we saw some interesting results which shows how wide open the competition can be on any given Saturday.
As we move on though so does life outside of football with the cricket and women’s soccer world cups heating up and although MrM is weary eyed in this morning commute once more, life is good knowing we have a glutton of sports to keep MrM occupied. We can also all take solace in the fact whilst the AFL may be struggling with its image; the Perth Football League continues to thrive.
Without further rambling, let us DIVE into this weekend's games (A reference to the rain we have endured and will endure this weekend, MrM has to spell it out as some the do not posses MrM intellect).
Scarborough v North Fremantle @Millington Reserve MOTR
MrM is just throwing them around now, because anything could happen so it is this weekend’s Match Of The Round.
After suffering their first loss last weekend the boys from the mill will be expected to rebound this weekend. They still sit pretty atop the ladder though so there is no real concern just beaten by a better side on the day, but they face another challenge this week against North Freo who is pushing to play finals. A loss for North Freo could see them fall outside the top 5 with plenty of work to do for the rest of the season, but know if their best can definitely be good enough. Scarborough should rebound here though.
Scarborough by 3 goals
Wembley v Kingsway @Pat Goodridge Reserve
Wembley winning last weekend meant they have given themselves a little breathing room in the relegation battle, although Wanneroo played well Wembley capitalised on their chances and will be looking to do the same against this weekend against a Kingsway side that got out of jail last week. Kingsway scraped a win in the dying seconds last weekend, thanks to another one of their home grown local talent, and can push into the top 5 here with a good win, although their percentage isn’t too flash a good win here can see them back on track.
Kingsway by 3 goals
North Beach v Trinity Aquinas @Charles Riley Reserve
North Beach back on the winners list last weekend survived a good contest from the North Freo boys. If North Beach play at their best they are very hard to beat, but if you get them just below their best, then the opposition will be licking their lips. The TA’s boy have endured a tough first 9 games of the season, but have a chance to change that all around on the back half, will be a very hard game to win though especially with North Beach back at home.
North Beach by 4 goals
Wanneroo v University @Wanneroo Showgrounds
Wanneroo were wasteful in front of goal last weekend and may have cost them a victory. But back at home, in front of the home crowd and with Ladies Day on (MrM is read) MrM knows they will be on their game. Uni is slowing building something though and could be a dark horse to make a big splash come finals time. It’s going to be hard for Uni though, because Wanneroo want and need a win and MrM expects them to do so.
Wanneroo by 2 goals
Kingsley v Fremantle C.B.C @Kingsley Park
Kingsley was oh so close to a win last weekend, but fell short just as the siren ended. They still sit in the relegation zone, but will feel they are within a chance of avoiding. Standing in their way this weekend is a formidable team though with something to prove after knocking off ladder leaders Scarborough last weekend. If Freo C.B.C bring their A Game, Kingsley won’t get close, but I think they will bring just under A Grade game and sill win.
Fremantle C.B.C by 4 goals
Good luck to all sides playing MrM will be watching under cover all wrapped up and hoping he does not freeze to death.
