The WAAFL board has rejected Kelmscotts application to field a colts side in the WAAFL for 2019, according to the clubs Facebook page.

Given the clubs track record in recent years, I’m happy to see the league take this standpoint with the club.

Seems interesting that a number of clubs looking to move over from the MFL in the last few years have each been rejected (Warwick Greenwood, Queens Park, Kelmscott). Anyone able to shed any more light on why?

Warwick Greenwood’s application was unsuccessful due to all the requirements of application from an administration side not being met within the timeframe. The club decided to take a step back to rebuild its playing list (between 15-20 players chose not to play sundays for various reasons), strengthen the off-field structure and work on building the clubs profile more before reassessing it’s options in the future.

From what I understand Queens Park were considered to not be strong enough onfield but have since won the past 3 MFL flags. They may have an issue with ground availability.

Kelmscott I don’t wish to speculate on

I find this one a little puzzling.

Since Kelmscott moved into the MFL I think they have had a big shift in players and people involved.
I know Kim Turner has been back involved which in my view is excellent.
Kim was heart and soul back in the Sunday League days and great to see him help his old club survive.
The goings on in the past I think are long gone with a fair element not around anymore.
The WAAFL Colts competition are crying out for more teams and Kelmscott have had a great junior club run separate and well for some time.
The kids coming in now are a good junior group who have been coached to play footy by solid community minded coaches.
Why punish these juniors for past senior indiscretions when clearly they are from a different set up.
I have seen these kids play against my own club this year and have no hesitation seeing them enter the amateur set up.
They will most likely go to another WAAFL club or quit if they cant play for the club they grew up at.
If its just a Colts side whats the problem as none of them are the old group?
Seems a little strange to me not developing a group of junior footballers into a solid future club base?
My 2 cents
Knight Footy is the winner!

At Queens Park we were not accepted into the WAAFL in 2013 because of the perceived lack of players, plus we had to share the ground with another WAAFL club..but the big piss off was that we had no support from our local WAFL club.. Perth Footy Club. Anyway thanks to Rowan and the MFL we joined sunday footy and won the 2013 flag in our first year.6 years on and 4 premiership flags later we have built a great community club.
We did submit an application to join the WAAFL with a colts team 3 years ago,but that was also rejected.

Kelmscott....I know of their problems from when in the WAAFL before...but i know they have a complete new mob running the joint and we played them in both divisions in 2018 and never had a problem....good blokes and we were always welcome back in their rooms after the game.
