Well who can truly believe it? The finals are here and MrM is still alive and well despite being on bypass last weekend when checking out results as the games went on, it is fair to say MrM was quietly nervous as the games unfolded. Congratulations too those clubs playing finals and commiserations to those who aren’t, especially to those who are off to B Grade in 2019.
A comment was made during the week on another as to why the northern corridor seems to be doing well in football and one suggestion was that it was due to clubs spending well. MrM gives this comment absolutely no credence because it probably isn’t true, but well pointed out. A perception by clubs in lower grades is you must spend money on players to go up grades and that “everyone does it”. MrM would say that is incorrect, if you want to invest your $ somewhere, perhaps do so in your youth and a coach who can guide them. It pays dividends. MrM hasn’t checked out the facts, but has made the point before, check Colts results, and then the success of a league side in 5 years’ time and that will tell you how the club is going. It clearly worked wonders for University and Trinity Aquinas in recent seasons, a good Colts culture and program translated to League success, granted they are a different case, but it backs MrM point up. We do digress though, MrM would have commented on that topic, but MrM does his own thing.
In off field news MrM has received exactly 0 offers from clubs to be present on their table at the 2019 WAAFL Awards but hope is not gone yet. SO MrM will put the call to others again, unlike the Brownlow Medal past awards winners are not invited back on a year by year basis so if you want a man who can share exceptional stories of his football journey then invite MrM along.
Alright, let us look at this weekend’s games, it is an easy job for MrM only two to do.
Fremantle C.B.C v Trinity Aquinas @Morris Buzzacott Reserve
In a big game for both sides here as they look to advance along to a chance to play Scarborough next weekend. Freo CBC did lose last weekend but they did seemingly rest a few players who should be refreshed after a weekend off and will be ready to go this Saturday. If they can win the midfield battle, then they stand a good chance. TA’s looked quite good last weekend as they virtually ran through the motions with a good win. Both sides have good forward lines and a solid backline to hold them up, so expect a good game. I think Freo CBC may do enough but will be close.

University v North Beach @UWA Sports Park
Win or go home as they say in American Sports, which means it is all on the line for both clubs here. University have managed to get the ascendancy here with a home final and they will want a good showing in front of their fans and fellow club members. Finishing in fifth spot on the ladder doesn’t mean you are out of the race though, as has been shown before so all hope is not lost for the boys from the beach here. Both sides have their obviously strengths and weaknesses, and it has bene suggested both teams are a fair rung below the top 3 sides regardless, however that doesn’t matter here. I shall go with what we know, and I think North Beach may cause an upset, but wouldn’t be at all surprised if Uni won.

Good luck to all grades. MrM will be around but may even head along to take in some of the Roos lower grade action.
