Caught both the league and the reserves games yesterday.
In the reserves it was a real arm wrestle all day. Cockburn got the jump in the first quarter, before Jandakot piled on the goals in the 2nd to get out to a 7 point lead.
A typical grand final in that it was very congested around the ground with no side able to take the ascendancy.
Cockburn were able to hold a small lead at 3 quarter time before Jandakot got in front by a point with around 10 to go. The scores were level until the last few minutes until one of the cobras players broke through and kicked the winner.
Jandakot are a very good side and can count themselves as very unlucky to miss out on a premiership for the 2nd year in a row. Based on their form over the years, they’ll be a force in the C3 comp next year.
A great way for the cobras to round out what has been a very challenging past 12 months. Interesting to see former South Fremantle player Mitch Cornell running around for their reserves.
The league game started with Jandakot coming out and having the game wrapped up early in the 2nd quarter. Osborne Park looked very lethargic and by half time, you could tell that they just wanted the day to be over.
The margin was out to 11 goals at the half and the real question was whether this would be a 20 goal plus blowout.
To their credit, Osborne Park came out firing after half time and were able too keep Jandakot to a goal while piling on a few themselves to put some credibility onto the scoreboard.
The margin at 3 quarter time was still unassailable though and the final term was simply both teams going through the motions as Jandakot run out comfortable winners.
All in all, a fantastic year for the jets who I feel will be a real force in c3 if they can keep this current list together.
Osborne Park should also fair quite well based on the similarity in the standard of the c3 and c4 competitions.
The 2019 competition in c4 should be interesting in both the league and the reserves as it would be very difficult to pick a clearly dominant side going forward. Jandakot and OP have been particularly dominant in the reserves over the past 3-4 years, so it will be good to see a bit of a shakeup there.
I would expect the Cobras to regain quite a few of their top end players who were poached by other clubs this year and potentially make a charge.
Cockburn Lakes and Rossmoyne should be there or thereabouts as well and it will be interesting to see if Noranda or Roleystone make the push to the 2 team competition.
Piara Waters will need to recruit quite heavily to have any real impact in C4 A’s history tells us that there is very little difference between the 2 grades.
