I just had a look at TAs list they had on the park last week and there points came to 49. In my opinion, dropping an ex-wafl or ex-afl player to the twos would be insulting, and if they didn’t like it we could loose these types of players to maybe country.
Gee wizz i thinks Nollamara’s points would be through the roof if they were in A grade.

In Victoria, points for most leagues were between 50 and 60 when it was introduced a couple of years ago. Since then, most leagues have shaved around 10 points off their totals.

The idea of a player points system is that it is supposed to be a competitive balance measure than promoting the game of 'we can stockpile more ex-AFL and WAFL players than you' that we currently have going on.

Good point TT however many names on your list are a flash in the pan, up for a couple of seasons with a plethora of paid players while their ressies get flogged most weeks then back down to B grade.

More often than not it is the same old school established clubs that fight it out in the last game of September.

I for one am bored with seeing the same few teams contesting the top 5 in A grade.

Scarborough has been a breath of fresh air but success comes at a cost as we all know.

Interesting comments Major.

From the 2007 season, 15 clubs have finished in the A Grade Top 5 with the 9 clubs highlighted playing off in the GF:
Collegians, Curtin Uni Wesley, Fremantle CBC, Kalamunda, Kelmscott, Mt Lawley, North Beach, North Fremantle, Scarborough, Stirling, Swan Athletic, Trinity Aquinas, University, Wembley and Whitford.

West Coast and Maddington just missed playing finals during their time in A Grade and Hamersley Carine have unfortunately struggled each time they've been promoted and dropped straight back to B Grade.

To my knowledge the points system in leagues in wa and around Australia are predominantly in PAID leagues not premotion and relegation league ( i havnt completely researched this so not say im 100% right) u cant have 50 A grade clubs. I dont believe $$ makes a good club or sustains success it comes down to good management smart business people and good football people on the commitee is number one good coaches and club culture these bring sustained success. Kelmscott was a prime example all the $$$ but no commitee they changed coaches every season very unorganised for pre season and training and no club culture or junior club relationship at all. So in the end no matter how many envelopes or how fat they were players didn’t want to go there and the ones that were there left the last two years the number of different players that played league was huge. I believe its not $$ that make the A B grade clubs the common theme with them all is numbers they have 5-6-7 club teams all the smaller teams that bitch and whinge “why cant we be an A grade club” are probably struggling to field a resies team. Not sure if a club like Gosnells has looked at this blue print or whats going on out there but they’ve had a thirds team for awhile this year bought in a fourths team all be it in the metro comp on sunday but means players dont miss out on a game and they have a women’s team. Be interesting if they can sustain this and where it takes them in the grades
The minority should stop bitching about $$$ and maybe do some some research on how to make your club better/successful go to an A grade club watch training find out there commitee numbers and structure learn about the hard work and time put in to the club behind the scenes i bet you open your eyes and shut your mouth

King - Just to assist you with your early comments, points systems apply in all Victorian leagues except the Picola league and the VAFA and there were seven Victorian leagues in 2017 with promotion and relegation and a player points system. The system has also been rolled out in South Australia and I know that the South West FL, the Central Midlands Coastal FL and the WAFL in WA also have it in place.

As you say, the smarter clubs will be the more successful clubs. The smarter clubs will be able to adapt to a points system by using their nous to construct the best squad possible within fair and reasonable parameters, just like hundreds of clubs have done in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

Good management and coaches go a long way to helping a club. Especially a good coach as this will attract players and sponsors. I was involved in a struggling club many years ago that had some good young talent coming through (1 who still curently plays AFL) these young blokes were told that if they weren't playing at their WAFL club they had to play at a specific local club. The coach at that club had an affliation with th e WAFL club in question. What attracted that coach to the local club was money which was with in the rules at the time. A point system would definately had stopped the filtering of players back to this local club. This practice is also happening at junior levels making it hard for smaller clubs to survive. Money to players is also still happening at most levels of WAAFL those who don't believe that need to open their eyes. Where there is smoke there is fire

How’d you get 4 players totalling 20 points when a max. of 4 points per player was available under the proposed model?

The Player Points System recommendation states clearly that Player points are assessed at the time of transfer or permit into the WAAFL and that points in excess of one (1) only applies to A player who has played one or more matches in any of the current or previous two (2) seasons at the following levels of football be allocated points as follows:

ELITE 4 POINTS • Played at an AFL club.[/b]

SEMI-ELITE 3 POINTS • Played at a WAFL club or interstate equivalent. • League/Reserves/Colts • WAFL,

COMMUNITY 2 POINTS • Played at another senior community club. • Transferred from a junior club not aligned with the WAAFL club. • League/Reserves/Colts • Metro, country, interstate

LOCAL 1 POINT • Is a Local Player. • Hasn’t played competitive football in the current or previous two seasons.

Using the above criteria TA's would have 32 points.

Using the criteria of a one point deduction for each year of service (as applies in the VAFA and other major competitions, TA's would be 30 points.

I think no matter how well or poorly
we get the points system in, it will be a step in the right direction!
Having been involved (and will remain so) with a club (of course lower grade) that has been subjected to 'indifferent' treatement it can only be beneficial to the credability of the WAAFL as a whole!
