Well it is what we have all been waiting for since the start of April...finals football. This weekend we see 3 good games of football across B League and B Reserves and 1 game that isn’t all that exciting, but we shall not dwell on that too much here because we don’t want to bring negativity to the forum.
In the league we have 4 sides play this weekend where anything can happen which adds all the more excitement to the competition. We all know finals is a different game however so it will be interesting to see whether we do get some good contests, MrM thinks we will with each game decided by a few kicks or less.

It promises to be a great weekend so let us all have a look at it right now.

Elimination Final
Swan Athletic v Mt Lawley @Fawell Park FOTR

It is all on the line for both these sides who will be looking to keep their season rolling on into next week as it’s this week’s Final Of The Round
Swan Ath should feel disappointed that they slipped up in the last few weeks and gave up the double chance in finals in the process. They were missing a few players to a cricket trip so it’s interesting to see how they all fit back into the side this weekend. They did lose some important games in recent weeks with one of them being to this Mt Lawley side a few weeks ago. Mt Lawley is the dark horses of this finals race as they boast the big bad “Brothers of Destruction” up forward, or in the midfield, wherever they choose to roam. If those two can get firing then they are unstoppable, especially if they can generate the run through the midfield like they are known for. It should be a good game for all those in attendance. Remembering last time Swan Ath were in this situation they lost a home final to another Hawks side...I think they can bounce back from that though.
Swan Ath by 10 points

Qualifying Final
North Fremantle v Wanneroo @Gil Fraser Oval

Well North Freo would be another ruing missed opportunities as they let a 2 game buffer evaporate over the past few weeks and lost top spot. They will no doubt be feeling fired up for this contest after they let last weekend’s game slip to the side they are facing this weekend. Wanneroo have enjoyed a good run home, only losing one game by under a kick and will be looking to bring what they brought in the first half last week for the whole game. It will be a interesting game with Wanneroo looking to stop that potent North Fremantle forward line where they can bob up with goals from anywhere. Windy wet weather is expected down at North Fremantle this weekend and MrM isn’t too sure who that favours. However just to appease boothead MrM will go with...
Wanneroo by 8 points

Good luck this weekend all. MrM is envious of you, but excited to hear what others think about football this weekend. If you can guess the B Reserves game MrM is not excited about, because neither side is overly good, then MrM will offer you a prize...of a good pat on the back. Now it’s off to the bar MrM goes.

Its here what we have all be waiting for, we can now all say the "F" word. 18 weeks of torture is now over and the top 5 is simple. Good to see ya back boothead, guess you couldn't really back Kingsway because they aren't playing but even still i thought you might tip against your so called beloved hawks. Ohh well keen to hear your report on the game either way. Thought we escaped the weather but somehow its come creeping back again which will definitely affect the games played.

Ath to break the Beaufort st boys by 4 goals. Ath won't be making the same mistake twice against Mt Lawley and will be very dissapointed that they arent playing at the left bank. Been a good 2nd half of the season for lawley but it ends here. Sorry boothead

Wanneroo by 1 point over the Maggies. With the weather coming in it might affect the run game of the nth freo. Wanneroo have lost only once since round 10 and will be confident. The real question is can the Pies get there mojo back? They will be confident at home.

Good luck all grades and would love to hear some opinions on games this weekend.

Here we are. The Friday before the first week of finals. Good review Mr M but have to disagree with you saying there is one poor game of football as finals bring the best out, and also the only side Kingsway lost to during the season was your boys up north.

Big game in the valley with what will bring out the better-skilled side but the oval should hold up well. Im picking the Ath boys by 3 goals.

Its going to be a tricky day to play down on the river but hopefully a cracker nonetheless. If it brings a close game like last week I feel like its going to be the magpies that come out on top. North Freo by 4 points.

In the reserves I'm picking Swan Ath to win even on the North Freo deck as they have been the stand out reserves side for me.
And Kingsway to do a number on Hamersley who managed to scrape one team into the finals.

Good luck all sides, can't wait to see the results come Saturday arvo!!

Thanks for the write up MrM.
Well it doesn't get any better than this. Going to be a cracker weekend.
Mt Lawley to continue their golden run
Wanneroo to take the confidence from last week and gets very tight win, even closer than last week.
North Freo and Kingsway to get the chocolates in the 2's.
Looking forward to the North Freo faithful repaying the hospitality and banter showed by the Wanneroo crowd last week, during the Colts night game.

Well done to all the winners, but must have to ask about the fixturing for the upcoming weekend.
Why would the WAAFL fixture both the swan ath vs wanneroo ressies and colts games at kingsway??? Surely youd play them all with the league clash at the showies?? Especially considering Nth Freo play in the two games at the showgrounds. Surely this will change.

Pretty simple really. All the 1st Semi-finals have been fixtured at Wanneroo and all of the 2nd Semi-finals are at Kingsway. The WAAFL stopped trying to mix and match fixtures to suit clubs a number of years ago.

Well what a week off close games we saw.

In the Reserves
Swan Ath took care of North Fremantle
While Kingsway won with a kick after the siren.

In the League
Swan Ath managed to defeat Mt Lawley and
North Freo beat Wanneroo by the slimmest of margins.

MrM heard it was a good contest with leads changing regularly, Wanneroo just couldn't quite convert late.

MrM was told to mention this.
The game was also marred by a North Fremantle fan abusing the umpires once the game had concluded, apparently abusing them all game was not enough, had stormed the rooms afterwards to give them a piece of his mind.
People who abuse umpires are a stain on the game and need not even attend if that's how they wish to act.

Sets up a good couple of weeks in all grades.
I agree Boothead, hopefully common sense prevails and all games get played at the venue they should.

One week down, 3 to go after the weather held off I believe on the weekend. Mt Lawleys strong 2nd half to the season proved to be worthless and can look at some bad early losses to the reason they didnt make the top 3 or even host an elimination final. Swan ath getting the job done gets them back on track but are they playing good enough football to make a push for September 9? One thing is for sure, anything can happem in finals.

North freo scrape across the line against wanneroo in a rip snorter. Looks like from the quarter by quarter scores as a close tussle all day with North going up by 2 goals into 3qtr time. Wanneroo looks like they will be trying to work out how they didnt win it in the end kicking 3.7 in the last.

It sets up a big week with the weather looking fine and hopefully at some point tomorrow the fixtures are changed making for some big crowds so each club can get behind there teams. Nothing worse then being at different grounds especially during finals. Love to hear if anyone got to thr games this weekend gone and give there opinions on where they think each club stands. Boothead im sure will be up and about for the teal roos this weekend as his so called beloved hawks are now gone. Frank out
