WOW!
It has been the week of returns; firstly the HARDY BOYZ returned to the WWE and claimed the Raw tag team titles. Then news spread around campus about a former player returning to be Head Coach of basketball for the Hoyas in 2017-2018 season, so all got to welcome back “The Big Bad” Patrick Ewing. Then MrM sat around wondering, what a life without MrM would be like? Well it was a boring life indeed. So guess what, as you have probably figured, Heeeeeeee’s back. Everybody loves a good comeback story.

So ALL the way from the U.S capitol MRM IS BACK. With more comebacks then John Farnham, MrM will do his best here to serve the West Australian Amateur Football B Grade community (it is a niche service I know). So sit back and enjoy because MrM is here, it’s true, IT’S DAMN TRUE!

I hope everyone can take time this season and reflect upon the fact that they will not be criticised for lack of hot chips by MrM (others please feel the need to do so if clubs still cannot get their act together in this department). MrM will still have his usual eyes and ears doing the work for him, so be on the lookout clubs, for if you feel MrM’s wrath, it can be a long way back to reclaim some respect in the West Australian Football Community and more importantly a definite long way back to reclaiming respect from MrM.

It is currently sheeting with rain here, so good luck to all who will be experiencing lovely weather in Perth this weekend. I look forward to hearing about some good games of football this weekend. It is a pity MrM isn’t around...

Time to have a look at Round 1 for this season, I shall leave the grand predictions of what the ladder will look like at season’s end to more daring people than I.

North Fremantle v Hamersley Carine @Gil Fraser Oval

North Freo should be excited with the big arrival of the man with one of the all time great hairstyles to ever grace an AFL field. MrM knows that North Freo would be disappointed with how they started season 2016, so I am sure they will be out to make amends this time around, they do have plenty of reason to be excited, and MrM notices they have taken time to theorise a new game plan, which is always good to see a coach implement. Hamersley Carine are the dark horses this season, after a hugely disappointing return to A Grade lasted just one season yet again they are known to produce in B Grade. With no clubrooms to speak of in 2017 yet again (thanks heaps local councils) can they maintain that club atmosphere and ensure that the club moves into new facilities in 2018. (MrM has heard funny rumours about this, but I shall leave to another date). Should be a great game here, but I think North Freo at home are looking the goods.

North Fremantle by 3 goals

Mt Lawley v Kelmscott @Hamer Park 1

Mt Lawley should feel a like season 2016 was a holding year for them, as they reached finals, but failed to get past the first week. They have the big “Brothers of Destruction” up forward (I hope they play again, I love talking about them) and I think that will again see them pushing up towards finals. They face an uncertain side this weekend, who will they play is the big question. There has been plenty of chatter about Kelmscott and I do hope for football faithful that they do put up 3 sides each and every week. It will be interesting to see what they can offer, will it be the side that blitzed the opposition to reach finals only a few years ago, or will it be a shadow of them like last season. I am sure time will tell, but I think Mt Lawley should get the season off to a great start.

Maddington v Stirling @Harmony Fields MOTR

Mr has decided that given it is a Grand Final rematch, and both want to get 2017 off to a great start it is for that reason I have awarded this Match Of The Round.
Both these clubs are coming up to B Grade and with the top end of the competition quite close last season it will take a good effort for these sides to play finals, but you never know. Both these clubs have been to A Grade before and it could be a long climb back to that level of football. Maddington are usually very good at home and Stirling may be tested here. Given it is a Grand Final rematch though, I am sure it will be a closer game with plenty of excitement. Maddington should still be too good at home.

Maddington by 2 goals

Kingsway v Collegians @Kingsway Reserve

2017 could finally be the year that Kingsway string it all together as given their resources and juniors MrM expects big things from this club in the future. Add this to the fact they have added some WAFL experience this season they could definitely be ones to watch this season. They do face a very good opposition here who were one good kick away from playing A Grade this season. A kick that missed the lot from 35 metres out directly in front last season’s Preliminary Final means Collegians are again in B Grade with plenty to prove to show that they are good enough once again to finish in the top 3. One of MrM’s all time favourite’s plays for Collegians and it will be a shame to miss out on seeing the big bonce running around again. I think this game will come right down to the wire with Kingsway just getting the edge at home.

Kingsway by 2 goals

Wanneroo v Swan Athletic @Wanneroo Showgrounds

The boys from Wanneroo are primed for a big 2017 season after surviving relegation by a small margin in 2016. With some handy additions as well as some players returning from injury, MrM is sure Wanneroo can fare better in 2017. Time will tell how they can fare without the assistance of MrM every week, but where there is a will there is a way. Swan Athletic is another side looking to make amends for a poor season in 2016. After losing some key players to injury and elsewhere Swan Ath were depleted in 2016, but will no doubt be looking to rebound against an opponent that defeated them twice last season. These matches are usually close with no more than a goal between them in recent battles. At home though in front of a fired up parochial crowd, Wanneroo will get it done.

Wanneroo by 2 goals

Good luck to all this weekend.

Watched the 1st half of the Kingsway/Collegians game, but for poor kicking at goal from Collegians, should have been over at quarter time.
Collegians very well organised around the footy and with their defensive structures at kick outs. Kingsway have recruited players with WAFL experience that have good foot skills, however there is a distinct lack of leg speed all over the park. Could be an issue on the big Kingsway ground against the serious contenders.
Dog was giving me the shits so left at half time, not surprised to see Collegians fairly comfortable winners.

Am fairly close with a few of the Kingsway boys who said that Collegians are a very good side (as last year showed) and will certainly be around when the whips get cracking. They admitted they were jumped early and never really recovered although they had a chuckle regarding the leg speed especially as the mids are similar to last year when it wasn't an issue? - They also made mention that they had 5 playing on the weekend who could have played Colts including 4 playing there 1st game of league footy and who will be better for the experience especially after playing such a well balanced side. It will also help that over the next couple of weeks they will get back 4 - 5 league players from last year who were missing on Saturday due to injury / illness etc which will strengthen them right up

As for the other results:

Can't get a gauge on Mt Lawley playing against a side that was thrown together rather late and had quite a few players play both ressies and League

North Freo will be hoping they stay injury free (any truth to the rumours that Brett Peake will be back at NF) as it looks like they accounted for HC quite easily

Maddington made a statement against Stirling on the weekend although they need to back it up against the established B Grade teams. My boys Stirling struggled against the quick Maddington Side and will need to improve sharply if they want to be competitive in B Grade

Finally looks like the Swan Ath v Wanneroo game was a cracker with Swan Ath coming from 4 goals down at 3 qtr time to win. Both sides will certainly like there chances of playing finals footy

Well after such a big build up we get this weekend off so enjoy whatever you get up to. Will be interesting to see what happens with Kelmscott to see if they will stay in the comp because they will need a massive recruiting drive over easter to at least field 2 full teams. I wish them Luck

I wouldnt say Kingsways leg speed was the problem, collegians just wanted the ball more and used it better.

If they're happy with third like last year, I guess leg speed isn't a problem, although I did say leg speed was a problem all over the ground. Pretty close to a few of the Kingsway boys myself, interested to knowwho had a chuckle about their leg speed. Surely not McAlister?
