Yes I'm stating that PSA should be midweek also!

My experience with the players in the PSA is that irrespective of when the games are the Schools generally don't want the kids to play. This does vary around from School to School and most often boys play with their community clubs on bye weeks in the PSA.

In my opinion it is important to help players maintain contact with their community clubs and I agree that it would easier to do that if all PSA was played mid-week. But that is very unlikely to happen. It will remain hard to manage in work load terms too as these kids are caught between PSA, WAFL Colts and Community Football.

I don't want to get this thread off track, but the PSA position does lead to an interesting position under the Boston recommendations about talent development because I have not seen much evidence of the WAFC having any influence over the PSA. Perhaps Unholy tugboat is better informed about that and we can discuss it on another thread.

Whilst its nice to be the recognised authority (ozfooty based) on everything community based, one of my favourite players in dusty fletcher , I think , missed debut with essendon because of PSA.

In my opinion a commercial colts/TAC based development league would see players forgo PSA commitments , could be wrong, guess we will find out.

After school holidays the PSA cranks up and WAFL kids go missing for a number of weeks. That can't be good for their development let alone a kid trying to get drafted.

Steady on UHTB - I said perhaps better informed ;)

Mad Dog - the thing is that no one seems to think that playing PSA instead of WAFL Colts is an impediment to getting drafted. It is only slowly happening that references to a player's school are being replaced by their JFC in the Footy Budget (just check out Claremont to see how common it is there).

I agree that the best should play as many games as possible against the best but the WAFL Colts is already diluted by the limitations on availability of PSA and State 18s players. Will the WAFC be better placed than the WAFL Clubs to demand that PSA kids play in eh revamped Colts comp?

The SANFL seem to have a policy of playing their kids against bigger stronger bodies as soon as possible. No wonder they have dominated at 18s level and always seem to have high numbers of kids drafted. Very simple formula but effective..

PSA competition < Wafl colts

More passion.

Playing for something that means something rather than playing for themselves and to get drafted.

Totally agree with the midweek concept for PSA. I'm fairly sure it happens in VICtoria now that the top schools play Wednesday therefore those that play TAC are able to compete in that competition on the weekend. If not gaining selection to the TAC team they play for there junior club on a Sunday that they are affiliated too. As a former PSA student I would of rathered that concept way back, when I was playing. The best underage talent playing the best alway under a WAFL COLTS BANNER. PSA is a competition run by the Schools association and is not governed by the WAFC but it is about time these schools think what is best for developing those elite footballers amongst those that are of that ilk.
Nothing beats match practice and no doubt the Vics have there competitions in order to develop there talent pool. 2 games in a week for players of that age should not hurt aslong as they have the pre season underneath them and coaches have trainings managed to be able to allow the elite junior footballers too compete in both competitions. PSA is a proud competition but cmon be proud enough too shift your 1st XVIII fixtures to a WEDNESDAY in order too help these footballers develop further and more rapidly.

The PSA is no impediment for AFL selection, in fact I'd suggest to say that there is as much focus on the PSA as there is on the colts competition.

The PSA will rightly never revert back to mid-week competitions because there is not enough time available given the HSC requirements of the students and given the physical demands of footy now, you don't want boys playing two games in three days by doubling up in a revised Colts competition.

As one of the respondents has already stated let the PSA kids play for the pride of the jumper and the mateship and love of the game and leave them alone.

The number of kids playing AFL from our PSA competition is extraordinary considering the numbers in the equivalent PSA competitions in Melbourne.

The passion of some of the rivalry's in the PSA reminds me of the WAFL 25 years ago.
