Think we've got s goer numbers wise.

Have also spoken at length with and accredited female AFL coach who wants to coach and play with us.

Is that a Female who is an accredited AFL coach? Or a Male that is an accredited woman's AFL coach?

Despite the naysayers, it's on!!!

Starting with 3 Sunday 'carnival' type events, the first woman's amateur games will be played on Sunday 11 June at the UWA Ovals.

A full competition is expected to start in 2018, although the structure not yet finalised.

9 Clubs have nominated - I suspect they would welcome some more.

Players will need to be registered, but the system is not yet set up.

Everyone will be covered for insurance, the same as all male players currently are.

There will be no cost to clubs or players to participate in this carnival.

Football boots, club shorts and club socks will not be mandatory for the carnival - jumpers will be (WAAFL can supply on loan).

Teams need to have an accredited coach and are required to supply a goal umpire.

Let's get on board - like it or not, this is a big part of the future of football.

So high heels and skirts can be worn to play footy?
Nobody but family members will go to watch this.
And why would ya. The sooner it starts, the sooner people will see how rubbish this will be, and people can get over this novelty

I have edited my previous post for clarity.

The South Australian competition has been running for a few years now, with 70 odd clubs participating.

Multiple female competitions run in Victoria and are starting in WA Country Leagues also.

The USA conducted their first National Female AFL Football Championships in 2016 and their National Female Team is touring Victoria in September (along with their National Male Team).

There is even an all female league running in Calgary (Canada).

Now it's finally happening in WA - albeit a few years behind other places.

If you don't think the concept has legs then don't get involved, but it will get up and be successful no question. There arent many supporters at amateur games that arent friends or family and that seems to work fine. Cants ee why you would have a crack at others giving it a go.

Girl youth numbers have tripled this year as well. Big difference between crowd numbers at an AFL game and girls between 18-40 getting a chance to play after all these years. Well done to those giving it a crack.

Banga, your post is both ignorant and stupid. In a time when local footy clubs are struggling for consistent numbers what is wrong with giving something a crack that can increase membership and participation in the WAAFL? It doesn't have to be a high standard but more local footy regardless of gender can be nothing but positive. Your post says a lot about you as a person. But who cares when you hide behind an alias on a forum right?? Women's footy is here to stay and while it will never be at the standard of men's, it is good for the game. Grow up !
