While i respect your option churpah.. I agree with the others. You've cooked it. Yes teams from lower C grades doing well would be competitive in higher grades it's about the average standard in any given grade. There is a considerable difference in C grades as an average. Yes exceptions are the case if you compare strong teams in lower grades and struggling teams in higher grades but in sorry there is a different Step up and your comments are off the mark. There is a reason why clubs don't consistently climb through C grades or drop C grades year in year out.

C4-C3 cab be grouped. C2 is a step up and then C1 another again. To broad brush and throw a blanket over C1-C4 is wildly wrong. This is the reason why promotion and relegation works. So many variables are apparent in local footy and then once you hit B grade and then A $$$ becomes a huge variable. It seems every time I mention this my posts get deleted. Admin need to wake up and allow free speech. Only way more can be done about this issue.

For me the biggest factor for climbing through C grades is depth and successful colts programs. E.g. Ballajura.

Thornlie to do well in C1 after years of dominance in lower grades. Their choking in finals has haunted them somewhat.. can they match it with teams like Quinn's and Melville who have come down from B grade is the big question.

Can a moderator please explain why my general calling out of player payments are deleted when we all know this is the biggest issue facing the WAAFL

Churpah no clue.

Tigerpoint spot on, tbh $$$ through A+B is being generous,id be pretty confident to say there would be teams in every grade dishing out some sought of incentive. But that discussion is for another day.

The main reason clubs don't climb through the C grades is because there is no consistency with who'm they retain as players. The teams change quite substantially form year to year in the lower grades. And the factor responsible is as you say (Tigerpoint) $$$ the poorer clubs who struggle to get sponsors and only survive on player fees cant compete with the other clubs that cheat.

I agree it's hard to compete against the mighty $$ however at Balla we are trying to make our club sustainable by working with our junior club to develop relationships so that they want to be a part of the senior club. Over the last 7 or 8 years we have had our senior players either coach or assistant coach our junior teams to the point that our league captain got to play in a gf last year with some lads that he coached in junior's. This has built great comrade Riegel amongst the players where they want to play and help one another. We have also been the only club in our grades who has never paid a coach. Again our coaches come from within who all want to be successful together. We do not have a great sponsorship bucket but we do have great sponsors who also want to be part of a fabulous community. Not paying players might mean we won't get to a or B grade but I'm sure we will play at the highest possible grade with the boys were have because they all want to play together and support one another. One things for sure we have a very young league side who will hopefully be together for a while have passion together and want to succeed together. Something our league coach is proud of and a huge part of making. As most teams who have played us over the years we also have very large passionate supporter base who are with us every step. As with a lot of clubs in the waafl. Good luck and most of all enjoy the 2017 season.

Well the fixtures are out as the season edges closer.... we'll get tipping and write-ups happening later on but here's a quick glance:

Cottesloe v CWP - a first up match between sides from C4 & C2 last year
Belmont v Mosman Park - C4 premiers first real game since the flag
Brentwood v Manning - good chance to see improvements from last year
Piara v Dianella - as above
SNESA v Ellenbrook - 2 new coaches wanting to see how their game plans have sunk in

For those that haven't seen the WAAFL written preview yet:

C3 Grade Season Preview
Friday, March 24, 2017 - 2:47 PM

Teams:

Belmont
Brentwood Booragoon
Coolbinia West Perth
Cottesloe
Dianella Morley
Ellenbrook
Manning Rippers
Mosman Park
Piara Waters
SNESA

Belmont Districts enter C3 Grade for the first time since 2013 when they finished in ninth position. It was a quick rise to the top after finishing in eighth position in 2015, last season they claimed the C4 premiership with a 10-point win over Cottesloe. The 2017 season sees Wayne Hulm coaching the side for the fourth year in a row.

Newly elevated Cottesloe jump into C3 Grade for the first time in the club’s short history. Since entering the WAAFL in 2014, Cottesloe finished fourth and fifth in the C4 competition before making it to the Grand Final last season. A successful club in C4 at both League and Reserves level, will the Rooster’s be able to continue this success at the next level. They will be coached again by hard working clubman Hudson Wheeler.

Piara Waters made their second finals series in a row last year since rebranding from Southern River. They won 12 games for the year but lost both their finals games against Nollamara and Ellenbrook. Andy Leinasars has been reappointed as Coach after a successful season last year. Ryan Jenkins will be one to watch in this team after taking out the WAAFL C3 Best and Fairest in 2016.

SNESA have appointed new coach David Van Raalte who joins the club after two premierships with the Karratha Kats. SNESA will be looking to make their way back to the top half of the table after failing to make the finals for the past four seasons.
Coolbinia West Perth enter the C3 competition after only winning three games last year and therefore being relegated from C2. Coolbinia West Perth have appointed Wayne Bonjour as league coach for 2017. Wayne was the league coach at Osborne Park AFC in 2014 and 2015 as well as the assistant league coach in 2013 at Stirling. He has experience as a player at WAFL, WACFL and WAAFL clubs.

Mosman Park finished seventh in 2016 and have appointed Aian McLennan as Coach this season. Aian is a personal trainer who played football in Sydney before moving to Perth to open his own gym in Cottesloe. The reserves side finished strongly last season making the Grand Final but unfortunately went down by six points to Swan Valley.

A strong season in 2017 saw Ellenbrook finish in fourth position as well as making it into the preliminary final. A 16-point loss to eventual premiers Nollamara cut their season one game short of promotion. They have added some coaching experience by appointing former Geelong player Justin Wood as head coach. Justin recently spent four years coaching at Swan Athletic and was involved in their promotion to A Grade. Last season he was a playing assistant coach at Williams where the side won the premiership. Twin brothers Logan and Daniel Ashby return to the Eels to boost their premiership chances with Logan a Club Best and Fairest player in 2016 while Daniel returns from East Perth.

Manning Rippers have reappointed Clayton Gardiner as Coach for the third consecutive season. Manning made their way into the finals last season after failing to make the finals since 2011.

Dianella Morley just missed out on finals last season after playing in the previous two finals series. They have appointed a new coach with Peter Zelesco joining the Raiders this season after coaching Brentwood Booragoon in 2016.

Brentwood Booragoon survived relegation last season due to the fold of the Swan View Football Club. They have appointed Lance Lennen as head coach for 2017 who joins Brentwood Booragoon from coaching the colts at North Fremantle. Lance has also coached development squads and colts at WAFL club East Fremantle.

churpah1000 wrote: For starters C3 is not a harder comp at all, and i would say that there isn't much difference between C4 and C1 except for the top 2 teams in each comp ( we aren't talking A grade and B grade here)

Belmont will win because they are mad dawgs (its just simple math), if they don't Cottesloe will... they are a highly skilled team who had a ridiculous record in second halves last year.

.... lol

I would also say the bottom 2 teams in C3 this year would of survived C2 (not finished in bottom 2). Whilst the bottom group in C2 would probably struggle in C3 this year. High Wycome and a few others had pretty ordinary seasons looking at %'s
