Well we reach Preliminary Finals this weekend and in terms of B Grade we have 3 very good games of football all @Macdonald Reserve. With the winner of the league game advancing to the Grand Final the week after and A Grade in 2017, so it's definitely do or die for all.
Despite MrM's offers of moving the ground (easily done...MrM is The Wolf of Wanneroo Road, carries more clout than doubt) the game will go ahead at one of the worst ovals MrM has seen this season, so bring your wellies all and pray it doesn't rain.
The WAAFL Awards Night was last night and boy was it a beauty, food was delicious, DJ Milkyway was playing a few bangers (Colts aged players words...not MrM's) and we saw all the award winners for the respective Grades. Well done to B Grade winners, D.Mckinlay for winning the TR Howard Medal as the B Grade Fairest and Best as well as himself, his fellow brother of destruction A.Mckinlay and T.Noakes for taking out the B Grade Goal Kicking.
Slightly off B Grade Football here, but special mention to C.Basile from Fremantle CBC who won the CJ Jamieson Medal - A Grade Fairest and Best. The way he spoke and conducted himself should be applauded and you could have heard a pin drop when he spoke...just amazing, especially after a tough week for him!
Alrighty, let's get into B Grade football right now.
Drew Banfield Colts
Wanneroo v Whitford @Macdonald Reserve
Previous meetings this season
Wanneroo 8.10 (58) defeated Whitford 6.9 (45)
Wanneroo 8.7 (55) defeated Whitford 5.8 (38)
Wanneroo will enter this game with plenty to prove after last weekends disappointment as they fell to a very good Collegians side. If Wanneroo can get back to how they played in the weeks leading in to the finals series then they will be a very good chance, however Whitford will think different. Whitford were atop the Colts ladder for most of the season, but they faltered late in the season and gave other sides around them a chance to jump over them on the ladder. It's an away home game for Whitford, so expect them to be full of energy. Wanneroo should win here though.
Wanneroo by 2 goals.
Reserves
Whitford v North Fremantle @Macdonald Reserve
Previous meetings this season
Whitford 9.11 (65) defeated North Fremantle 9.6 (60)
Whitford 7.8 (50) defeated by North Fremantle 8.4 (52)
Whitford missed out on an opportunity last weekend against Wembley and will be out to rectify that also they look to push for a Grand Final berth. It will not be an easy game though as previous results have dictated, it will be a close affair. North Freo should be very confident here, as the game they did win against Whitford was away from home. I expect that Whitford may be a little too good here, but North can't be counted out.
Whitford by 1 goal
League
Whitford v Collegians @Macdonald Reserve FOTW
Previous Meetings this season.
Collegians 9.9 (63) defeated Whitford 7.10 (52)
Whitford 10.5 (65) defeated by Collegians 13.6 (84)
Whitford 9.5 (59) defeated Collegians 8.10 (58)
Well it's all on the line here, a chance to play in a Grand Final and a chance to earn promotion to A Grade, that's why this is my Final Of The Week.
Whitford would count themselves lucky after escaping with a win two weeks ago, but they were somewhat poor against Wembley last weekend. They have a few injury concerns which hasn't helped their cause, but it's 22 v 22 on a Saturday afternoon. They just need to get the ball in their forward line long and quickly as that's where they look most dangerous, however they face a Collegians side which knows they are good enough if they play 100 minutes. Collegians fell behind last time and found the margin to hard to overcome (they did regain the lead late though, but they had to do plenty of work just to do that). Collegians know they will be able to run out the game for longer so they should be comfortable in knowing that if they are in striking distance at 3 quarter time, the run in their legs should see them through. I'm going to go with an upset here and say Collegians will get the win...controversial MrM is aware.
Collegians by 1 goal.
That's it ladies and gents. Good luck all.
