An interesting first round of finals results indeed.
The battle of the handbag throwers in the colts looked like a sour affair, as did the Reserves game at between North Freo and Swan Ath the same.

Kingsway defeated Mt Lawley as they should have and now face a Collegians side who were running all over Whitford in the late stages, but fell short..by an inch.

With nothing to do MrM and no nagging MrsM to tell him what to do, MrM wandered down to check out some football Saturday.
Firstly parking was a premium, so MrM had been reduced to parking on the far side of the oval, something that didn't sit well with him at first. However as the rained pelted down and MrM sat in his car watching the football, it didn't seem so bad.

The colts game was scrappy, poor and not a great advertisement for football. What didn't help was the atrocious ground conditions...seriously, MrM would never sign off on the ground report if I was in-charge. Collegians Colts hit the front late and will no doubt have a few sore bodies when they face Wanneroo next week.

The rain stopped so MrM got out of his car and watched Whitford v Quinns in the Reserves. Another boring game, with Quinns never really firing a shot, to me it seemed like they were just happy to be there...which they have Whitford to thank for.
(MrM heard a rumour Whitford, which turned into fact...so don't try to hide from it).

By the time the League game rolled around MrM was nearly asleep...the ground condition hadn't improved so MrM has a proposition for Whitford. Next time you need to host a final, Wanneroo Showgrounds are free and in much better condition...not sure what the maintenance crew is like on the other side of the Mitchell, but needs some serious work.

Collegians got off to a good start in the game kicking the first goal as Whitford failed to capitalise on their chances. Whitford just needed to convert better, something they did much better in the second quarter as they started to put their foot down and open up a lead that looked to be unassailable.

Whitford played well in the third quarter and looked like running away with the game, however Collegians strung together some good play as they threw it all on the line. By the time the 3 quarter siren sounded they had rescued the margin to 10 points and definitely looked like they had plenty of run left to go.

Collegians just couldn't quite take their chances in the last quarter though as they hit the front, but Whitford got it straight out of the middle and took the lead back. Collegians had a few chances to convert, but missed, especially #10 who tried to play on in the final two minutes, only for the ball to end up out of bounds.
Whitford cleared the ball and the siren went a few moments later.

Disappointing for Collegians, but I'm sure they left with the belief they are good enough. As for Whitford, they will face Wembley next week and anything could happen. Definitely a few questionable umpiring decisions throughout the day, mainly against Collegians, but that's just football.
MrM sends his wishes to the Collegians ruckman who was stretched off, with an apparent knee injury.

Cracking write up as always mr m

I too had to park a mile away and almost lost a shoe crossing the oval, wish I packed my wellies

Only caught the last quarter of the Colts game was a tight affair, collegians runner with beanie must of delivered the longest message in footy history I don't think I seen him come back to the bench in the last 5-10 minutes, bloke has a amazing memory or Bluetooth head piece to deliver message

Ressies game was pretty lack lustre, Quinns just didn't fire and were lucky Whitties couldn't kick straight margin could of been far bigger,

Didn't hang around for the league game, was too busy retrieving shoe from CHF when making the crossing back to the car and thought it would be a great idea to set up at a pub early to watch the bledisloe

Hot dog was pretty good, onions needed some work, and jacks can needed a extra few mls, 330ml didn't satisfy big shows big thirst

Sounds like it was a good contest at McDonald Reserve although you could probably throw a blanket over the 3 sides challenging the WAAFL ammos board favourite club in Wembley (those who can do no wrong!!)

I ventured to Kingsway to watch the Elimination final and i must say after the early heavy rain on Saturday, the ground looked OK from a distance but was quite muddy and heavy underfoot close up

The colts was a very scrappy affair with Wembley doing just enough to get over North Freo. Only saw the 2nd half but Wembley looked in Control in tough conditions

the Ressies was again a scrappy affair with North Freo leading on the scoreboard most of the day by making the most of there early chances. Swan Ath dominated play in the 3rd qtr but again couldn't hit the scoreboard when it counted. Swan Ath would have counted themselves as a big chance at 3 Qtr time but NF controlled play for most of the last to run out comfortable 17 point winners

The league started with Kingsway having the use of what was a 3 - 4 goal breeze . Mt Lawley were on top early but couldn't hit the scoreboard when it counted. Kingsway kicked a few goals late to take a 20 odd point lead at qtr time. The 2nd qtr was quite even however the game was ready to explode 1/2 way through when the Mt Lawley Ruckman cleaned up a kingsway player who had his head over the ball and initially it looked like the Kingsway player was in a fair bit of trouble however after a bit of push and shove it was the Mt Lawley ruckman who came off 2nd best with what appeared to be a pretty serious Arm / shoulder injury (along with a yellow card which in my opinion was clearly a red card - he would have got 10 weeks in the AFL) - The kingsway player spent the rest of the 1/2 on the bench (which was a shame as he was clearly BOG up until that point). By memory Kingsway still held a 3 goal lead at 1/2 time. My Lawley worked really hard into the wind during the 3rd qtr with 1 of the big boys up forward starting to clunk a few and halved the qtr and at 3 qtr time, it was certainly game on.

Whatever was said at the 3 qtr break worked as the game was effectively over 5 minutes into the last qtr when Kingsway piled on 3 goals to none into the wind to get out to a 6 goal lead. Game then petered out with the better side on the day winning pretty comfortably in the end

Sets up a couple of cracking games this week with promotion to A Grade a real possibility for all 4 sides remaining. To the sides that bowed out, enjoy your mad monday celebrations!!

Great write ups all. 3 weeks to go and anything could happen!

Sneaky, from what i heard, it was a compound break to the arm. Seems like karma won this one. Only one bloke had eyes for the ball and is lucky not to be in a wheelchair.... While the other bloke, well he wont be doing much for the next couple of months. Hopefully a lesson will be learnt.

Great one - it certainly didn't look to flash at the time and im sure that everyone had there hearts in there mouths until the Kingsway player stood up. As for the Mt Lawley bloke, it wasnt a great look but i suppose a broken arm will remind him of it for quite a few months to come. Still can't believe it was just a yellow card though

Yep, was well deserving of a red card. Only thing stopping it might have been the fact he was on the ground not moving as well. Must be some kind of record however, to be carded whilst going off with a broken arm. Cant say ive seen that before.
