Round 17 action this weekend and what a big weekend it promises to be. With top spot on the ladder and the final 5 all but wrapped up its now down to what the order is going to be. Both Whitford & Kingsway have tough games this weekend and dependant on how those games turn out we could be heading into a very interesting Round 18. On the flip side of the ladder Wanneroo's win last weekend pushed themselves out of relegation (for now) however unless Melville defeats Wembley and Wanneroo loses this weekend it's all but fait accompli that both Melville and Quinns will be back to C Grade in 2017.

MrM fought the war and won it. That's right ladies (I assume all whom I direct to this website on my dating profiles actually read my weekly segment) and gentlemen, MrM managed a win for the good guys after successfully negotiating to work from home for the next two weeks as the Olympics are on. MrM looks forward to this venture, and hopes the generous CEO allows this sort of behaviour more often...

Australia should be on track to win a few more medals in the pool this time around, but let's see how we go in week 1 before MrM comments too much on our performances. All eyes will be on the men's 100 metres Sprint though, can Usain Bolt do what no man has ever done and win the Gold 3 Olympics in a row...we wait and see.

Alright before the Olympics, we still have our Round 17 matches to go, so let's take a look at them. Special shoutout to Sneaky101 who did a little preview of the end of the season during the week, if you have time, give it a read.

Swan Athletic v Kingsway @Fawell Park

Last time they met
Kingsway 12.8 (80) defeated Swan Athletic 6.11 (47)

After last weekends disappointment of defeat against Wanneroo, Swan Athletic will no doubt be fired up as they still have a slim chance of playing finals, although they need to rely on the improbable, so it's a very slim chance. They have been playing good football of late and come up against a Kingsway side with plenty to play for. Kingsway, after recent results have gone their way they can still finish second on the ladder and earn that double chance and a home Prelim final (if needed) so a win is definitely vital. A loser could see them slip to fourth and cost them a double chance, so it's a must win for Kingsway here and I can see them winning.
Kingsway by 3 goals

Whitford v Collegians @MacDonald Reserve MOTR

Last time they met
Collegians 9.9 (63) defeated Whitford 7.10 (52)

Well it's a battle for the double chance come finals time here and it's it's sure to be a good contest at the ground located in the other side of the Mitchell. We all remember siren gate from last season, so that's why this is Match Of The Round.

Looking at the ladder, Whitford can till finish outside the top 3 so a win this weekend against fellow contenders Collegians is vital. They will need to be on top of ther game as they know Collegians will have they if they aren't given Collegians defeated them last time around. Collegians know what they need to do, win and they give the elves every opportunity to earn that double chance come finals time with a possible home final, a loss and they might not get a home final at all. It's a tight race and should be an interesting game with what is at stake. I'm going to tip it's going to be a tight scrappy affair, with the boys in blue to get a win.
Collegians by 2 goals.

Melville v Wembley @Melville Reserve

Last time they met
Wembley 13.15 (93) defeated Melville 10.8 (68)

It's a simple equation here for Melville, win and give yourselves a chance to avoid relegation, lose and it's back to C Grade in 2017, the trouble for them though they come up against a side that's sitting on top the ladder and currently flying, although they do have little to play for. Wembley, just need to win one of its remaining two games to sew up top spot and it should come this weekend. Wembley have been the best side all season and I can't see them stopping now, Wembley to win and seal the deal for Melville.
Wembley by 5 goals

Quinns District v Mt Lawley @Ridgewood Park

Last time they met
Mt Lawley 15.10 (100) defeated Quinns District 12.3 (75)

Quinns chances of avoiding relegation are gone, it's been a tough year for the Bulls as the 9 wins predicted by some Quinns faithful at the start never proved to come to fruition. The smoke can be seen emanating from there fire pit as the season has burned out. (Good work MrM!)..Mt Lawley, well they need a win here and should be going all in so they can get a good percentage boost as well. I think given its a home game for Quinns it might prove a tough task, but Mt Lawley should be too good as Quinns own Olympic cauldron burns for one last time in season 2016. (Again, great work MrM.)
Mt Lawley by 5 goals

Wanneroo v North Fremantle @Wanneroo Showgrounds

Last time they met
North Fremantle 7.16 (58) defeated by Wanneroo 13.7 (85)

Wanneroo earned a hard fought win last weekend to give themselves breathing room in the battle for the drop, but the job isn't done and a win this weekend should see them safe. They have played some good football this year, but it's about playing 100 minutes, something they did last weekend, but not for all of the season. North Fremantle, still a sneaky chance to play finals, and will be filled with confidence after last weekend, but it's an away game for them and with the Wanneroo crowd in full voice, I expect them to have their finals chances snuffed out.
Wanneroo by 2 goals

That's a wrap ladies and gents, MrMs final day at work today before he gets to work from home for two weeks. No doubt you're all as excited as I. Give me your feedback, especially those whom reside on the other side of the Mitchell Freeway, you're all awfully quiet and that saddens MrM, is it due to your internet coverage?. The sooner the NBN gets here the better...am I right?!

Great Write up as usual Mr M - Enjoy the olympics unlike the young lass from Russia who has been cruelly denied a chance to compete

Now for the footy and as you say still a number of twists and turns to play out. I wonder if any of the teams in the bottom half of the table whose ressies are playing finals may look to get a few qualified over the next 2 weeks? -

Swan Ath Vs Kingsway - Swan Ath at home are always hard to beat although with there finals hopes all but eliminated and with Kingsway needing a win to guarantee a 2nd or 3rd place finish, i expect Kingsway to get the job done by 25 points

Whitfords look to have few players missing (Injury?)which is pressing there depth whilst Collegians look to be getting back to full strength after the UNI break and with so much riding on the result, i certainlty agree that this is the MOTR - If Whitfords get a few back then they should win at home but a Collegians victory wouldnt surprise. Whitfords by 5 points (They wouldnt want to give Collegians a 7 - 8 goal start like a few weeks ago against NF)

Melville V Wembley - As much as i would like to make a case for Melville at home, Wembley won't be dropping this and will win by 60 plus (Unless the weather plays a part then they win by 8 goals)

Quinn's V Mt Lawley - Danger game for the Hawks in that it is at Quinns however now that they have been relegated for next season, the wind may have gone out of Quinn's sails and with Mt Lawley needing to win to guarantee a finals spot, they won't be dropping a game to the bottom placed side. Mt Lawley by 30

Wanneroo vs Nth Freo - Wanneroo had a great win last weekend and will follow that up again with a win at home against Nth Freo by 18 points

Good Luck to all sides and hopefully the weeather stays fine for long enough

Whitford have had a fair few key players out over the past few weeks, hopefully they will start returning. Amazing how there are no injuries come finals!!

Great write ups, has been a very even season, finals should be interesting.
