Well another weekend and it produces another interesting round of results. Wembley did what they needed to and defeated Quinns, Kingsway got a win over Collegians, Swan Ath upset Mt Lawley and Wanneroo...well that is why MrM is here, to tell you a nice tale.
MrM awoke early Saturday ready for a nice trek South of the River (MrM gets to do it so infrequently that anytime he does it definitely is a good place to go to.)
After seeing the doctor Friday to make sure I was fully vaccinated, because you never know what you are going to catch South of the River, MrM was ready for any challenges that he was about to face...MrM encountered many a challenge, but we shall talk about them later.
The colts game was definitely an interesting one. MrM thought these two sides would produce a good game of football however it wasn’t too be. It turned out to be a scrappy affair. Wanneroo colts managed to get the win despite really only playing 30 minutes of good football. And that was all in the second half. With results going their way it meant they now sit second as they ran out winners by 4 goals.
MrM thought after that he needed a good feed, however MrM forgot that in order to get said feed, he would either need to give up his prime position car park spot and head down the road to the lovely burger joint that produces a whopper of a burger or face the even tougher task of walking up stairs and get myself a good deal.
MrM mustered up the effort to walk up the stairs and enjoy the good feed the canteen had to offer. MrM noticed the hot chips were straighter than Dan Bilzerian is and that was definitely a good thing. MrM ordered the hamburger as well. For the price you paid you would think they would something extra to the burger, but it was just your standard burger, not much bang for your buck, so perhaps with that extra money that are planning to build an elevator. Good service though, so I’ll give them a positive score 6.5/10.
Luckily for MrM he didn’t have to pay to watch the Reserves game as it was a dire affair. Wanneroo walked away with a win after doing what they needed to do in a game that produced little to no highlights; maybe the highlight was the fact that MrM made a surprise appearance...on the field. However it wasn’t in a playing capacity it was in a secretive role. Wanneroo Reserves won by 10 goals in a boring game.
It was time for the highly anticipated League game now as MrM once again walked up toward the grandstand and balcony, but this time it was to secure my seat. This was to avoid any potential cans and bottles thrown on MrM as last time he visited this lovely Auskick sized oval he endured just that.
It was a good first quarter with Wanneroo starting the game well but as in recent weeks, some small lapses have cost them as they headed into the quarter time break a few points up. Melville kicked towards the Canning Highway end in the second quarter and too their credit they were definitely playing better football than last time these two sides played. At half time MrM thought the game was in the balance, but definitely though if Wanneroo could play like they did last week, even only for 50 minutes then they would walk away with the win.
Mr was joined only the balcony by a few fan favourites and seemingly a Melville man with very limited vocabulary...the words F and off seemed to be his mainstays.
The second half produced a good quarter for Wanneroo, but couldn’t put Melville away as Melville were hanging on in the game as they lead by 4 points at the start of the last quarter.
It was goal for goal in the last quarter as Wanneroo looked to put them in front, however late in the game they made a cardinal sin, kicked across goal Melville pounced on it, bagged the goal and the lead and then kicked another straight out of the centre as they won by 9 points.
Disappointing for Wanneroo are they definitely face a tough 3 weeks, as the relegation battle has definitely reached its peak.
Thanks to the Melville man who told MrM and his compatriots to F off and enjoy the ride home. MrM did. Apologies MrM couldn't hang around for a beer though, you seemed like a delightful gent.
