Well another round has been done and dusted.
Whitford got over Quinns in the Northern Derby, Kingsway outlasted Melville, Collegians did the job on North Freo and Wembley got over Swan Ath in a close one.
MrM awoke Saturday morning and was quite alarmed by the rain pouring down as MrM was certain he checked the weather radar the previous day and it indicated no rain. Not too be deterred though MrM braved the conditions outside to check on his beloved rain gauge and found it actually hasn't rained all that much.
MrM again checked the weather radar, and thought to myself it should clear up by lunch time.
On the way to the game MrM thought he'd do the right thing and stimulate small business and grabbed a coffee and muffin from none other than Lawley's Bakery, nestled in the heartland of Mt Lawley along Beaufort street (the worlds craziest street mind you...surprised you don't hear of more accidents along here).
Well after arriving to the ground just in time to see the first balm up of the colts game MrM was alarmed. You wouldn't believe it though for the second time in one day, MrM was again hoodwinked about the weather. MrM's rain gauge must be faulty because it indicated a bit of rain, but not a whole lot of rain.
Well Mt Lawley's oval was flooded, puddles everywhere and the puddles were so large it almost made the goal posts look smaller than regulation size...although on closer inspection MrM has seen Auskick posts bigger than the ones at Hamer Park.
MrM spoke to the colts manager at quarter time and he said they had refused to play on the ground and rightly so, the gents were there to play football, not water polo.
Still with Wanneroo playing, it couldn't be a bad day.
Wanneroo colts got the game underway with a good start and managed to play very well considering the conditions, they are play some good team for all at the moment and managed to win by 10 goals.
Aside from the fact MrM hardly moved all match as I was frozen solid, it was an otherwise dull contest.
MrM thought he'd venture to the canteen to see what was on offer...well you'd be surprised to hear it was quite a productive trip. The chips were cooked nicely, and tasted well. MrM also ordered a hot dog, and albeit slightly concerning the lovely lady at the canteen heated the whole thing up in the microwave, but was an other otherwise pleasant trip. Not quite on North Freo or Swan Ath level, but pleasant indeed. Good to see the floods that rampaged the Mt Lawley area hadn't affected the canteen production...8/10
The Reserves game, was another scrappy affair, but for Wanneroo unfortunately they couldn't come out winners a disappointing loss, which means playing finals is almost all but out of the question. Mt Lawley won by a few points.
It was time for the League game and weren't Mt Lawley looking the part in their heritage jumper. A nice green number, if only the ground looked as green.
MrM was looked forward to seeing how "The Brothers of Destruction" were going to play. But it was Wanneroo with the early lead and they were up and about for this contest. Despite the scrappy conditions, Wanneroo managed to build a lead up at quarter time.
Wanneroo again controlled the play in the second quarter and by half time they were leading by 4 goals and were definitely looking to make amends for last weekends disappointing loss.
At half time MrM attempted to try and join the canteen line but the lure of everyone wanting a hotdog microwaved must save been too much. MrM asked a nice colts gent who found himself at the front of the line, to get him a flat white coffee. It tasted like warm water, but I'll place the blame squarely on said colts player.
Wanneroo started the second half well and to a degree "The Brothers of Destruction" had been largely ineffective, but had sill managed to get a couple of goals. Wanneroos 4 goal lead had been reduced to just under 3 goals by 3 quarter time, but MrM was largely confident that Wanneroo will still run out winners.
Wanneroo dominated the play in the past quarter, but couldn't convert, kicking 1.8 from set shots in the last quarter as Mt Lawley managed to confer there chances.
In the end Wanneroo probably should have won, but didn't, as Mt Lawley managed to hit the lead late in the last and hold on.
That loss means Wanneroo are now 3 games outside the top 5 and will need to finish the season very strongly in order to play finals, but even that may be too much!
All in all not a great day for Wanneroo, or for drainage systems in the City of Vincent.
The past players day looked like a good event though...good to see some good numbers as well.
