Well there we have it, we are now half way through the season and it looks like it is going to be an exciting affair for the second half of the season. Kingsway outclassed Quinns, Whitford got over Mt Lawley in a tight one, Collegians defeated Melville, Swan Ath and the upset over North Freo to breath life into the relegation battle and Wanneroo v Wembley...well I shall tell a tale.
MrM arrived to the ground with the expectation that it was going to be a good affair between Wanneroo & Wembley. Well it definitely was a good affair...If you were a Wembley supporter. They were all over Wanneroo like a bad rash, especially with the big cat #24 up forward. He clunked everything and was definitely the best forward on ground. Wembley showed Wanneroo where they need to go to in order to make a difference come finals time. Wembley ran out winners by 10 goals as "BLESS THEM ALLLLL" bellowed out from the changerooms.
The Reserves...well less said about this game the better. Wembley were ahead at quarter time 8.2 to Wanneroo's 0.0 No wonder this side is undefeated. Half way through the second quarter Wanneroo kicked its first goal as they showed Wembley how to be more efficient heading forward, 2 entries into the forward 50 1 goal, 50% was betters than Wembley's 40% conversion rate...
In the end Wembley were just a bit too good only just winning...BY 20 goals. Plenty of work to do for all from Wanneroo heading forward. "BLESSSSS THEMMMMM ALL" again rang out from the changerooms.
It was time for the league game and a few in the Wanneroo crowd had something special planned for one particular Wembley player, unbeknown to MrM some players had taken the time to print out face cards of the singer SEAL in preparation for there favourite player M.Seal and M.Seal loved it. Nearly as much as he loved appearing in the STM week in week out. He even later on in the game signed one of the face the signs, that will no doubt go into Wanneroo folklore.
It was a tight game early, but Wanneroo squandered early opportunities as Wembley managed to hold a lead at quarter time. In thanks no part to #24 (seems like a good number for Wembley) spent a good 10 minutes on the interchange only for player after player to come off the ground but he seemed to have missed the rotation as he remained on the bench for a fairly long time, it made for good fun with the crowd as he definitely enjoyed the banter.
In the second quarter it was Wembley who had squandered some early chances as they appeared to let Wanneroo back into the contest. Wanneroo managed to peg a few goals back as Wembley had a slight lead at half time.
It was another tight contest throughout the third quarter as Wembley once again threatened to pull away with the game, however Wanneroo again managed to close the gap to 1 goal by 3 quarter time.
It was all too much for Wanneroo though as Wembley started the last quarter strongly and managed to extend there lead to 5 goals where the margin remained for the remainder of the game.
Probably a fair reflection of where Wanneroo need to get to, to really contend for a finals berth.
Wembley are definitely a good side and clearly have the depth to keep them up the top of the ladder for many weeks to come.
