Received in my email inbox today:

Dear Players,

We are a third of the way through the season and I hope you are enjoying your footy.

The WAAFL has already conducted the One Life Round to raise awareness of suicide prevention and on the 25th June 2016 we will be conducting the Men's Health Round, which I hope you will support.

Recent media reports regarding on field behaviour does not reflect the competition. With 110 matches fixtured each weekend, football games are played to be won and football is a contact sport so it is expected that games will be hard fought and physically demanding. However, the WAAFL also requires that each game is played within both the written rules of the game and the spirit of the game.

As a player, you are personally responsible for ensuring your behaviour is fair, decent and honest. The desire for victory must not outweigh the ideals of sportsmanship which are foundations of the game, and the reputation and integrity of your club and the WAAFL.

I wish to also advise the appointment of Brendan Kays as Competition Integrity Officer. Brendan's role is supported by your club committee to assist in player education and the compliance with WAAFL as an amateur competition. Players who receive remuneration to play will have their registration cancelled and their club ineligible for finals in the current football season and be relegated to the next lowest grade for the following football season.

I strongly urge all players to re-consider their involvement in the WAAFL if they believe they can be paid to play.

David Armstrong, General Manager

Empty threat or finally some action to be taken??

Be nice to think it is on the move, but just so hard to pilice.

2 things I know as fact

1 B grade Amateur Coach given a remuneration, told must spend x % on players as part of the package
2. Our club (Not Amateurs at the time) offered a player match payments, knocked back as not in the same ball park as an A Grade Amateur side

Both these were 20 years ago, Amateurs could not control it then, don"t think they can now.

I 'understand' he has some information on player payments to start working on and instructions to do so.

I doubt he can put an absolute stop to it though.

Sorry if I keep ringing your number, instead of a certain 2 down South. ;)

Been one or two blues in my days at Swanbourne/Nedlands and John XXIII/Swanbourne.

One v Girrawheen at Allen Park. Our Captain/Coach found a ground ball too much a stretch, went the soccer, kid came across for the smother,.....OUCH!

Bang!It was on.

Match Abandoned halfway through the 2nd Quarter. We all paid for it,by having to play the replay on Foundation Day Weekend. There goes the General Bye and Long Weekend Darn it!

The other, one of our's v Rather careless,if provoked Umpire at Hartfield Park.Glad our Boundary Ump pulled him off the Ump and helped shut the match down, after one and a bit quarters.

Thank Gawd he did.I could have carked it,running up and down in bloody circles, after a very big night on the squirt and doing my own version of Kevin Bloody Wilson's song,Well Did I get whacked on the Weekend(albeit with alcohol),by mistaking the old man's bedroom cupboard, for the Dunny Door. His Scuba Diving Gear copped it!I cleaned it up in the mornin'! sick:
