It's Round 8 this weekend as the season moves along quicker than MrM's last coital encounter with a member of the opposite sex (in other words, it's flying and it will all be over before we care to admit it). MrM is looking forward to a week off next week and may even do a mid-season report card. Plenty of big games for all teams coming up, as the battles we like to see heat up in the backend of the season.
In off field news MrM is going from strength to strength. No I haven't found myself a Mrs Mysterious as of yet, but MrM's knowledge of all things local and national football related have, after all these years, started to pay dividends. MrM currently sits inside the top 1% in the state in AFL tipping. Top 10 in WAAFL B Grade Tipping (would be better if I didn't tip with my heart and tipped with my head) and lastly but without wanting to blow my own trumpet too much (but I need to, because you either use it, or you lose it) MrM sits atop the WAAFL A Grade Tipping.
You may think it's a sad life for MrM and you may be correct. But the way I see it is that I'm only a few short steps away from appearing in the STM Social Scene with prominent Perth-onalities like Tony Galati and Eamon Sullivan.
Election watch continues with only 37 days to go as Bill Shorten made a visit to WA but hasn't yet caught up with prominent folk like MrM, so he's losing there, whilst Malcolm Turnbull was voted very arrogant, but very likeable in a news poll recently, sounds a bit like MrM too me.
Let's jump into this weeks games like Greg Louganis into a pool, with grace and hope.
Collegians v Whitford @Dalkeith Oval
This is a big game for both clubs here. Collegians will need to keep up there momentum they have gained the previous two weeks this weekend if they are going to be a chance. Definitely a make or break game for them as they could fall outside the top 5 by weekends end. Whitford will want to keep riding that momentum wave, as well as they would no doubt be full of confidence after last weekends win. If they can manage to give their big forwards enough of the ball, then it might be too much for Collegians. I think Whitford will get the win here.
Whitford by 3 goals
North Fremantle v Wanneroo @Gil Fraser Oval
North Freo will definitely be on the rebound here as they missed a golden opportunity last weekend to assert themselves on the competition. Dropping that game also cost then top spot on the ladder and they don't want to lose too many more games, they were expected to win. Wanneroo will be looking to test themselves here against a side that's going to be up and about. If Wanneroo plays with the passion as they have done in the past two week then I expect them to win. It's going to be a good game regardless. North Freo to lose the unexpected two on the trot.
Wanneroo by 1 goal
Mt Lawley v Quinns District @Hamer Park 1
Mt Lawley will want to rebound after last weekends disappointing loss and what better way to do that then a home game against a club who is struggling to gain any momentum. If they can get the ball out of the midfield, then Mt Lawley forward line will be too much. Quinns as stated can't get going, especially after being taken apart at home last weekend. They will need to stop the big McKinlay brothers in the forward line if they are too be any chance. I expect Mt Lawley to do a number on Quinns.
Mt Lawley by 7 goals
Kingsway v Swan Athletic @Kingsway Reserve MOTR
You're probably thinking why? But I can see this being a season defining take for both clubs which is why I have awarded this Match Of The Round.
Kingsway, had a good win last weekend and no doubt they are full of confidence headed into this one as they face a side struggling. If Kingsway can win here it will definitely hold them in good stead towards the latter part of the season. They have in the past though had a habit of losing games they are expected to win, so they need a win here. Swan Ath, well they showed last weekend that they could indeed play good football, it's just a matter of playing it for the full 100 minutes. If they lose here and results to against them, it will be a tough second half of the season. I think Kingsway will win here, but Swan Ath won't go down without a fight.
Kingsway by 2 goals
Wembley v Melville @Pat Goodridge Reserve
Wembley slipped up last weekend as a strong Whitford outfit out played them in the wet. They would have penciled this game in as a win two weeks ago, but with results from last weekend they will need to work hard this weekend again to get back on the winners list. Melville no bout bouyed by the fact they had an upset win last weekend should definitely consider themselves a chance this weekend. However Wembley will flex there muscle, and show why they are a genuine contender.
Wembley by 6 goals
Well there we have it folks. Count how many times MrM used the word momentum this week, it's sure to be plenty.
Good luck this weekend all, hopefully the weather isn't as bad as last weekend. Wanneroo have a comedy night Saturday, so MrM might have to get up and deliver some comedy gold
