An interesting round of results indeed, Quinns were thumped by Collegians, Kingsway had a solid win, Whitford snuck in over Wembley, Melville did the unthinkable and defeated North Freo and Wanneroo... Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale a tale of a fateful trip.

MrM awoke on Saturday morning to a loud a thunder clap, which scared the socks right off MrM, not nearly as much as looking out the window and releasing my pool had overflowed. This wouldn't be too alarming, except MrM doesn't have a pool. My back garden was now my backyard pond and MrM had lost half the lemon tree, but not to be deterred MrM soldiered on and got dressed ready to go kick some Ath (get it? Good work MrM!)

MrM arrived at the lovely Fawell Park and realised one thing, I'd need 3 jumpers, as it was cold, wet, and all round miserable. After MrM indeed rugged himself up to avoid any chance of catching pneumonia it was time for the colts game. It was a fairly even affair with Swan Ath playing a lot better than their ladder position would indicate. Wanneroo had the lead for most of the day before Swan Ath hit back late, although it was too little too late for Swan Ath as they lost by under a kick. A good effort from both sides considering the horrid conditions in which they played.

The sun came out for a brief moment throughout the Reserves game although after half time it was all Swan Ath as they kicked goals into the breeze and it was game set match virtually by three quarter time . Swan Ath ran over the top of Wanneroo and won by 6 goals from memory.

At this stage MrM was wandering around, thinking MrM had been duped, for MrM could not see any of these Ladies that were promised to his fine self. It was only when MrM enquired that he was told they were off at a winery and would be here pronto. MrM was salivating that prospect, the only thing that had MrM's mouth watering more was one quick look at the Canteen menu.
Chips,
Dim Sims
Chicko Rolls
MrM thought he'd walked into his local fish n chip shop, MrM would love to know who had the idea to put these on the menu?! I'm thinking "The Big Yuke" might had something to do with it. After ordering 2 of each and getting a number, and it being called out, like I was at Tuesday Night Bingo (Number 88, Two fat ladies!) MrM sat down, indulged and you couldn't wipe the smile from my face, I felt at home. I'm going out on a big limb here, but I'm willing to award Swan Athletic best canteen in WAAFL B Grade. The chips were fantastic, my chicko roll and dim sims hit the spot and I just love it was a one man crew. 10/10

The League game started and the smile on MrM face continued as Wanneroo started strongly into the breeze kicking 4 first quarter goals and they were certainly up and about. Wanneroo then kicking with the breeze added 4 more goals and had a very strong lead at half time, leading by 4 goals, but with plenty of work to do. It was at this stage, MrM thought he'd venture inside, grab himself a nice vino and warm himself up. Well MrM couldn't believe his eyes, as I walked in and saw the quality of women attending Swan Aths Ladies Day as they poured off the bus MrM was in heaven.
It's fair to say one thing, after realising Members get cheaper drinks and the chance of hanging out with women of this nature every week, MrM's though his days at Wanneroo were numbered, and was close to signing my clearance to Swan Athletic immediately...

Back into the game, it only took them 10 quarters of football all day, but the Swan Ath crowd had found their voice, much to the dismay of the Wanneroo 23rd Men and Swan Ath seemed to lift a gear. They piled on the goals with the wind and took away Wanneroo's lead as they hit the front late into the third quarter.

It was a tough contest in the last quarter, as the breeze dropped off and Wanneroo were fighting hard to get back into the game. They were down with 10 minutes left, before (not mentioning names here) #20 from Swan Ath laid a Wanneroo player down with a well timed punch to his spine/kidney region. Wanneroo payers weren't happy with this behind the ball treatment and they remonstrated as 2 Wanneroo players were given marching orders in the ensuing scuffle. #20 from Swan Ath was also caught in the fracas and given his marching orders too. MrM questioned some Swan Ath players whether they'd be happy playing with a gent who cowardly hit people only to get sniggers from them in return.
This seemed to fire Wanneroo up as they kicked a goal to take the lead and had a shot to put the icing on the cake with 2 minuted left, but the shot hit the post.
Swan Ath managed to get the ball after a Wanneroo turnover and kicked in t deep forward as a player clucked the mark with 5 seconds left as he set up for a shot after the siren.
He took an eternity to take the kick. Longer than his 30 seconds (should have been play on) kicking into a stiff breeze now, his kick sailed right as Wanneroo escaped with a win. A great win on the road, which will give Wanneroo some much needed confidence and momentum going forward.

Pity I'll be a Swan Athletic member by weeks end though, that place is great.

As for the Ladies MrM returned to the clubrooms after the game to see how he'd fair trying his hand with the women. Unfortunately MrM's jaw was for majority of the time on the floor so he was no chance of meeting a potential MrsM this time around, but I'll be back Swan Ath.

As for MrM efforts Sunday, he did very well, so thanks for the support all.

Another great write MR M,

Glad you enjoyed your day and the hospitality on offer from the ath canteen, sorry to hear you couldn't snag a MRS M, there was plenty there to choose from though so maybe MR M needs a new strategy.

Can honestly say I didn't see the incident but what I did see was a very unlucky wanneroo player sent off for flying the flag, think he was about the 10th player to get involved and didn't do anything but was given his marching orders anyway much to his amazement as well.

Maybe you can offer up some free drinks in the return game and we will bring a bus load of ladies up to the showgrounds for you to try again.

Time to turn the computer off and hit the road home and enjoy a cold one or too. To many meetings for a Monday for my liking.

It was certainly a good game and I wish Swan Ath all the best, because they are a ripper bunch of blokes too. I heard the player in question apologised too, so it's good to see some sportsmanship.
I can speak to our President (MrM's second best friend after TonyG). but if you arrange the ladies, I'll arrange a carton for the lads.
