End of Round 5 and we saw most results go the right way, North Freo got it done in a close one, Wembley gave Kingsway successive defeats, Mt Lawley laid down the Law (good one MrM) against Collegians, and Melville got the upset over Swan Ath, as for Wanneroo, well the result shows and tells more than any tale MrM could.
The day got off to a good start, when rain is around MrM thrives, because unlike fair weathered fans, MrM is up and about rain, hail or shine. Apparently a few Whitford Colts players stayed in bed and didn't want to risk playing in the rain, because MrM heard a Whitford man mention they were 12 short in the colts, but they seemed to have a full 18 on the field, and 4 on the bench? So they seemed fully functional to me.
As for the game itself, Wanneroo played well, and got the "Simon" after a good effort, especially after half time. To there credit and despite missing a more than few for the concert Down South, it was a good effort for the young Roos and pleased MrM.
The Reserves, they too got off to a good start, leading at quarter time as they were aided by the breeze blowing strongly towards there end. However after quarter time they barely raised a whimper, they couldn't manage to stem the flow and let Whotford run all over them, even when Wanneroo had the wind in the third quarter they couldn't utilise it as Wanneroo Reserves lost by 10 goals.
It was time for the big clash, the one we had all been waiting for, MrM v the Hill at MacDonald Reserve. If MrM could battle the win and the rain, and make it up the hill he heard a golden treasure that was a deep fried potato awaited him, so MrM set out on the journey. MrM pushed himself, having some doubts MrM could ever make it up the hill, urged me on even further.
When MrM arrived a the canteen, it's no secret what he ordered, A tray of hot chips, great pricing, they were nice and hot and nice and crispy so that's tick, tick, tick. MrM only had one issues, he prefers the thicker cut, (fish and chip shop style) chip. But the smaller chip was equally as delicious so for that I awarded you 8/10, well done Whitford. MrM was still feeling quite peckish so he decided he take advantage of the $2.50 sausage rolls. Unfortunately MrM wished he didn't part way with the $5 he had to grab to sausage rolls, because based on the size it felt like I was paying $5 for one. The pint sized sausage were good, but once again MrM prefers the bigger roll, so for that MrM will give you a solid 6/10.
After indulging in the canteen food, walking back to his seat only to find a young colts player in it, after telling said child to move, get his own umbrella, MrM was settled in for the League game.
Wanneroo got off to a flyer, kicking 4 goals to 1 in the opening term, although aided by the strong breeze and the rain that quickly came in Wanneroo was looking the goods and MrM couldn't have been happier. That was until Whitford kicked with the breeze in the second quarter and failed to score into it as Whitford slotted home 7 unanswered goals to lead at half time by a few goals. MrM would have loved to have been a a fly on the walls to hear what was said to the boys at half time, but he didn't need to, for MrM could have heard what the coach said if he was standing at Whitford shops.
Unfortunately for Wanneroo, they couldn't utilise the breeze in the third quarter and Whitford managed to stem the flow, which meant the boys in blue were leading at 3 quarter time with Wanneroo needing plenty of work to do just to not get blown out. In the last Wanneroo did manage to show some fight, but it wasn't to be as Whitford again piled on the pressure and won by 10 goals thanks to about 4 goals in the last 2 minutes all to the same player. (Probably not factual, but it seemed that way). All in all a relatively disappointing day, with plenty of work for Wanneroo to do in the next two weeks especially.
