Well the results are in. Whitford as expected defeated Quinns, Kingsway just got over Melville, North Freo got on the winners list, and Swan Ath hit back with a good win.
Wanneroo Colts put in a good effort and got the rewards with a hard entered win. After trailing early on, they lifted an managed to get a 5 goal win as they look towards keeping that sort of effort up for majority of the season.
Wanneroo Reserves put up a better contest than last week. They had a small lead for majority of the game, but really put the foot down in the last quarter to walk away with a 6 goal victory.
Wanneroo V Mt Lawley was a good contest early on with Wanneroo right on the heels of a Mt Lawley side that was definitely there to play. Up until half times turnovers cost Wanneroo as it put the ball in hands of the Mt Lawley midfield and small forwards, which in turn put it in the hands of The McKinlay brothers. It was like watching The Undertaker and Kane (The Brothers of Destruction) ply their trade in the WWE in the early 2000's
Mt Lawley should change their club motto. "If Adam doesn't get you, David will".
They aren't hard to miss, but they covered the ground superbly, as at one stage it seemed they had tripled as they were EVERYWHERE. Just like MrM at a nightclub working a room, these gents seemed to be covering all the Wanneroo Showgrounds turf just so everybody caught a glimpse of them strutting their stuff. Despite all this Wanneroo were only down by 9 points at the major break.
Unfortunately after half time, Mt Lawley got better and Wanneroo fell away with some poor disposal again ruining their chances to get back into the contest. Still only being down by 20 points at 3 quarter time, MrM thought Wanneroo were a chance. That was until Mt Lawley came out firing in the last and put the result out of question, they ran away winners. They definitely showed how to play good football, and show Wanneroo they will need to work harder this season.
