A few upsets to start 2016.
Quinns got up over Swan Ath,
Kingsway (as tipped by MrM) defeated Whitford
Mt Lawley did the job on Melville and Wembley won in a close one over North Freo.
MrM ventured up towards Collegians on Saturday to see the new facilities. It was the second time in 12 hours MrM ventured into the heartland of the Golden Triangle. After spending my Friday night enjoying a burger and some good company at a popular drinking haunt MrM decided that venturing in the GT more frequently could definitely be on the cards.
It was nice to see the lovely City of Nedlands council put in the effort give Collegians some nice facilities to ensure Collegians aren't the subject of ridicule for change rooms no more. However long may the ridicule last, did they run out of money to complete the car park?
It was bumpier than an pubescent adolescents face. Hopefully it will all be sorted sooner rather than later.
The colts game was a close affair, with plenty to like from the youngsters of both clubs. The scores were tight all game, and it went goal for goal for much of the game, but Collegians managed to steady where Wanneroo panicked so it was the boys in blue who got the win by a goal and a bit.
Due to the different scheduling times of the games this week MrM changed up his eating plan and went to the canteen a bit earlier than usual. After seeing if Collegians had again adopted the sign "MrM drinks for free" MrM set his sights on enjoying the canteen food. After noticing Collegians failed to install a deep fryer to serve hot chips MrM thought a change of food wouldn't hurt.
The conversation went as follows...
"Hey mate, I'll just grab a sausage roll thanks."
"Sorry we don't have any..."
"Ok, I'll just take a beef pie please."
"We don't have any of those either"
"Just give me whatever you feel then!"
"Ok"
*man brings out roll with 3 sausages in it...
"I'll grab a Coke Zero too thanks"
"Is a pepsi max ok?"
It's fair to say the next 80 minutes of football for Wanneroo were as good as my trip to the canteen. The reserves were outplayed for majority of the contest and we down by about 11 goals.
Most people at the ground were looking forward to the League game so it was no surprise to see the crowd swell in anticipation.
Collegians got off to a good start, but Wanneroo managed to keep in touch as Collegians were a little wasteful in front of goal. A bit of brilliance from Mr.T.Foley made sure the Collegians crew were pumped up. But it was Number 14 from Collegians who caught MrM's eye. He seemed like a relatively nice gent, but probably one of those kids who went to Shenton Park College and still tells everyone he lives in the GT.
It was much of the same in the second quarter as Collegians had a slight 1 goal lead at the main break. MrM thought if Wanneroo could take away some bad kicking they'd be right in this in the second half.
The scoreboard attendants at Collegians abandoned their post at half time, so nobody knew of the scores in the third quarter, luckily a Wannerooian stepped up (new word I know). Wanneroo were a few goals down at three quarter time though, Collegians managed to control the ball in the last quarter, kicking a few early goals as Wanneroo managed to get a few back but it was too little to late. On a brighter note, Number bobbed up again and celebrated a goal to the MrM crew on the sidelines, even though he had no actual involvement in any passage of play that lead to a goal, but well done son regardless.
In the end Collegians proved to be too good all day and Wanneroo not good enough. Number 1 from Collegians was clearly best on ground for mine.
