It's a shame I come with such bad news, however this could very well be Mr Mysterious worst post ever.
Two years after saying it was definitely my last season of cricket I was once again coerced into donning my off coloured whites this past summer, (that's what I told myself, not the fact I still sent the registrar 5 emails early August, begging to see if they needed players in our 3XI).
Each week the season went on I knew I was closer to getting back to the hot chips that the local Football clubs canteens offer, sadly as good as cricket afternoon tea breaks are, the White Devon Loaf filled with ham and mustard which are consumed by the plateful at the tea interval just don't quite cut it for me. With a mixed bag of results MrM enjoyed a season full of fun, banter and dodgy umpiring decisions by a geriatric man who probably set out to ruin Kim Hughes career early on in his umpiring life. Nevertheless MrM came out unscathed, managed to get a few wickets , a few runs and a few Murray's. (They are known as a Simon in the football season)
It also came as a surprise to many to see MrM attend a preseason session early in January. Rumours spread, will MrM once again grace the hallowed turf with his presence, a few took time to comment on MrM's presence.
"He's been burning the house down on the track"
"If he doesn't kick at least 30 goals in the twos this season I'll be dammed."
Whilst MrM doesn't mind a yarn about himself the real reason we are here is to see whom he thinks will have a standout out season this year in B Grade WAAFL Football.
It will be interesting to see how some sides are shaping up. North Fremantle should be looking to go straight back to A Grade. Whilst Mt Lawley might be back in looking to consolidate in B Grade after being dismal last season. Wembley and Whitford should be sides looking to make that step up also. Wembley finished second on the ladder last season, so should be looking to repeat that again, if not go one better.
Whitfords have been busy grabbing some former junior talent back to the club which is always good to see.
Swan Ath, Wanneroo, Collegians, Kingsway should all be looking to push for finals football. Melville and Quinns will need to perform strongly if they are looking to stay in B Grade beyond this season. It should be a tight battle for all involved. I cannot wait.
MrM is particularly looking forward for more people to get involved this season, MrM knows he has a cult following, as indicated by last season's WAAFL Awards Dinner where he was treated with such royalty, so don't be afraid, come and join in the fun.
I'll go the early crow and say it will be an all Magpie affair in the Grand Final this season between North Fremantle and Wembley.
