We are here finally, it has been a long road, but we have reached the big dance. After starting the season back on April 11th we have seen a few clubs rise to the occasion and we have seen a few fail to fire a shot when it counted. On here we have had our own ups and downs and it's been a pleasure to bring you the action every week. MrM never jumps on the inter-webs and bemoans the fact an umpire made a bad decision or that a time keeper rang the siren 5 seconds too early, and who knows, it could have been Whitford in the Grand Final this week...
The question I'm often asked is "Are you the one and only Mr Mysterious?!" To which I'm either obliged to tell the truth, or say who is MrM? It just depends on how I feel, but I'm 99.9% sure some people chose not to wish to know, a bit like a Bruce Wayne/Batman moment. But after that the second most common is "Where do you find the time to write such excellent game previews every week MrM?"
Well that's a secret of MrM's in which he doesn't wish to divulge, but just to let you know I make the time to write these previews and reviews for you wonderful fans of B Grade WAAFL football. This wouldn't be possible without all the support from you fans and subscribers and the pseudo sponsorship of Mr Tony Galati. The great man has featured in every single write up this season and I had to slip him in for Grand Final week, head down to your local store and grab yourself a bargain, you won't be disappointed.
So after 154 days it has boiled down to this. The winner takes it all and for the loser, it could be a long summer thinking what could have been. The weather is forecast for a few showers so hopefully the rain holds off so we get a good contest in all 3 Grades. Steel Blue Oval (Bassendean Oval for those on the ABC) is the location and the ground and I'm led to believe the ground has held up well. For both Scarborough sides in the Grand Final they will have to play on a ground slightly smaller than the gigantic Millington...(That's a joke, Bassendean is also massive). But after MrM has outdone himself particularly for this weeks write up, let's have a look at 3 potentially very good games of football.
Drew Banfield Colts - 10am
Collegians v Wembley
Previous Meetings This Season
Collegians 8.7 (55) defeated by Wembley 9.11 (65)
Collegians 8.12 (60) defeated Wembley 4.3 (27)
Collegians 11.5 (71) defeated Wembley 4.5 (29)
Collegians have the upper hand here and as MrM has said previously, I felt as though they have been the best colts side I've seen this season. They should go into this game full of confidence and refreshed after a week off. Wembley although they finished the season on top of the ladder, somewhat stumbled after the midpoint of the season. If they can bring their early season form, they will put up a good fight, but will it be enough? MrM think that the mighty Collegians boys will get the win here.
Collegians by 2 goals
Reserves - 12.10 pm
Scarborough v Swan Athletic
Previous Meetings This Season
Scarborough 8.7 (55) defeated Swan Athletic 7.5 (47)
Scarborough 6.9 (45) defeated Swan Athletic 6.4 (40)
Scarborough will be up and about today seeing as they have both Reserves and League in the Grand Finals. With good crowd of support it should help Scarborough as they attempt to do the Reserves and League double, they have been a consistent Reserves side all season which was indicated by finishing first, they will no doubt have to work hard here. Swan Ath are the first of two sides playing Saturday who finished 5th. They defied the odds and have reached a grand final where they will be more than competitive. I think Swan Ath could cause an upset here. MrM tips "The Big Croat" to get best on ground.
Swan Athletic by 1 goal
League - 2.30pm
Scarborough v Hamersley Carine FOTD
Previous Meetings This Season
Scarborough 8.13 (61) defeated Hamersley Carine 8.6 (54)
Scarborough 8.8 (56) defeated by Hamersley Carine 11.8 (74)
What a Grand Final we have in store. Firstly we have Scarborough who were the benchmark majority of the season and have been waiting to play in a B Grade Grand Final for a while. Hamersley Carine surprised everyone early on in the season by being up the top of the ladder. They then slipped and were in danger of missing the finals right up until the last round. However since then they have beaten all before them on the race to the flag, they are even one of only a few sides to defeat Scarborough this season. That's why this is my Final Of The Day.
As mentioned the Scarborough faithful will be excited by the prospect of having two flags on Saturday night. If the Reserves go well, then the crowd will have a big influence. Scarborough have deserved to be here for some time and will show why everybody has said they have been the best all season. Hamersley are the surprise packet, but they cannot be counted out. They have beaten 3 very good sides to get here and deserve credit, which they may not have received. It's going to be a good battle and each sides midfields have runners and they will use the open expanses of the oval if they get the chance. Can Scarborough's backline stop Hamersley's froward line? And will Hamersley (like they have all finals series) be able to stem the scoring flow and entry into the forward line. It's going to be a fascinating contest. But MrM needs to tip a winner. Scarborough will win here and take a flag with them to A Grade.
Scarborough by 2 goals
Good luck to all sides this weekend. MrM has enjoyed 2015 so far, will it have a big end? I sure hope so.
Will he be at the football Saturday? Possibly. Will MrM be back next season...well just wait and see...
