A Grade Preliminary Final

Trinity Aquinas vs. Wesley Curtin
Rnd 2: TA’s def Wesley by 37 points
Rnd 11: Wesley def TA’s by 51 points

The sides have split the honours so far this year, with Wesley running out easy winners in their last encounter. However, for some reason Wesley then lost the last three qualifying rounds vs. (NB, CBC, and WCC) and looked out for the count when they started their finals campaign. They destroyed Kelmscott by 84 points in the Elimination Final and then disposed of CBC by 90 points in the 1st Semi Final. TA’s came into the finals series with six straight victories and were probably favourites in their 2nd semi final last week against University. Unfortunately they couldn’t bridge the gap in the second half and went down by 4 goals. If the weather is bad, (heavy rain with a max of 16 degrees), that will not suit some of the TA’s talls (Lynch, Murphy, Birrell) and will definitely suit the Wesley on-ballers (Miller, Foster Bairstow). However, if the weather stays fine I expect it to be very close and go down to the wire.

A Reserve Preliminary Final

CBC vs. North Beach
Rnd 5: CBC def Nth Beach by 62 points
Rnd 13: Nth Beach def CBC by 34 points
Qual Final: CBC def Nth Beach by 49 points

The honours are 2 wins to 1 in CBC’s favour this year. CBC should also have a few more qualified after the exit of their League side last week. It will be close but I expect CBC after their disappointment in last week’s league match to salvage something for the club this week and face up to TA’s in the Grand Final.

A Phil Colts Preliminary Final

Mt Lawley vs. North Beach
Rnd 9: Mt Lawley def Nth Beach by 7 points
Rnd 17: Mt Lawley def Nth Beach by 1 point
Qual Final: Mt Lawley def Nth Beach by 3 points

Whilst Mt Lawley has won all three encounters this year there has only been a kick in it each time. Both sides deserve the opportunity to match up against Uni in the Grand Final. This should be a fantastic match and I will go with Mt Lawley based on their ability to hold on against the odds for the previous wins.

Best of luck to the Mt Lawley Colts this weekend. They look to be a quality group of guys who have worked hard this year to pull off some great wins to get them into this position.

Great matchup beween NB and ML, but I think ML will get through to the GF.

I believe Mt Lawley had a few Colts play up in Seniors this year, so good effort if they can get to the GF

Should be a great colts game between NB and Lawley.

NB haven't played any 20 year olds in the colts since the rules changed 3 years ago and continue to challenge the rest of the sides in the competition with the PS Colts in the Preliminary and BJ Colts in the GF this week.

Be interesting to see if the WAAFL continues with the 20 year olds in colts as when it was introduced it was intended that sides struggling to fill a colts team due to the split year of kids coming through would use some 20 year olds to top up the numbers. A number of junior clubs in our area are suggesting that junior footy should now stop at Year 11 as they are having issues with keeping the 18 year olds in Year 12 engaged.

Wesleys mids will get the job done and set up a solid 24 point win in the possible wet and windy conditions.
CbC by 14 points in a tough slog
And the Lawley Colts boys to salvage something for the club after a miserable year and proceed to the GF with a 10 point win

Good luck to all

Or perhaps they will keep running with it to ensure a strong Colts competition. Some clubs have a great catchment area though will still plunder areas north and south of them to get an many players as possible

In the end, no one cares what NB does so they can get off their high horse and stop telling us how great they think they are.

If NB is that so fantastic then perhaps their aim should be to create a 'super club' comprised of 10 Colts and 20 senior sides. They could then run their own internal competition and do what they do best - play with themselves :D

A Grade Final
Trinity Aquinas vs. Wesley Curtin

Last year Wesley took out TA's in the Preliminary final in identical conditions. I'm sure TA's will not roll over easily despite Wesley getting ahead of themselves with two big wins in their first two finals games. I don't know whether the Wesley side is substantially different from the team which somehow lost their last 3 H&A games for the season. TA's are still chasing their first A Grade flag. That should be incentive enough.
