Even though Scarborough lost they still wrapped up top spot, not sure of the game but Wembley would take great confidence from that. Hamersley scrambled together a win and hung onto Fifth spot. While Swan Ath survived a scare from Stirling and Whitford put a beat down on Maddington and will come back next season hoping for a better year. As for Wanneroo, well MrM has a story for you,
so just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of this fateful trip, that started from this little town, as both sides dished out some lip. (My best Gilligan's Island tune.)
First off the colts came up against a Collegians side looking to play finals and they were red hot. The Wanneroo colts were never in the contest and suffered a nice thumping. The game threatened to erupt into a fight but both sides seemed to big talkers and not actual fighters so we avoided a situation of the handbags being drawn at 20 paces. Collegians won by about 15 goals
The Reserves contest was a scrappy game and MrM was wondering if the ball was slippery because both sides appeared to be fumbling and bumbling with the ball. MrM didn't actually know because the closest MrM got to touching the ball was when it roll out of bounds towards the interchange bench. That's right folks MrM was on the bench and the ball rolled out and MrM managed to get a touch and tossed it straight back to the boundary umpire, MrM's one touch game, perhaps Fox Sports will write a story about me like Jarryd Hayne. A few little fights broke out, but just some boys angry because they wouldn't be playing finals. Both sides were at fault and I'm not condoning fighting, it's not something you want to see in football.
In the end Wanneroo put up a good effort but fell short of Collegians as the Blues won by a few goals.
It was in the Reserves game that word had gotten around about MrM and the Collegians boys were excited to try and get a glimpse of this great man. Rumours were spreading about who MrM could be and Collegians were taking bets on the appearance of the great gent. MrM heard a sign was placed at the canteen/bar "MrM Drinks for free". A brilliant initiative to try and lure MrM out of hiding but if you don't know who MrM is then not good to be giving out free drinks to everyone claiming to be me, even the guy at the bar didn't know who I was when MrM tried to claim a free drink. As we are on the canteen it was a deplorable attempt at a canteen. However given the extenuating circumstances of the temporary facilities I'll be lenient in my review. 3/10
The League game got underway and Wanneroo needed a win to secure second spot but they got off to an ordinary start as Collegians jumped out to a 3 goal lead as we headed into the quarter time break. It was in the second quarter Wanneroo attempted to fight back but some poor goal kicking was costing them any chance at getting back into the contest.
It was also in the second quarter MrM found himself a villain, #10 from Collegians. Sure this guy might be a ripper bloke, but to MrM he seemed like the kind of guy who would get into a round of drinks when you're out and about and then give his greatest disappearing act when it's his time to buy. #10 was having a game to forget, pretending his ribs were broken after getting a football kicked into them, kicking the ball out on the full, then he was picking on MrMs favourite player. Not good from you #10. I'm surprised "Schammer time" left him on the ground for so long.
Collegians were leading at half time also but MrM was confident that Wanneroo could get into the game after half time. It wasn't to be though, even though the scores were close, Wanneroo's goal kicking were letting them down immensely. #10 was still carrying on like a complete fool and things seemed to go Collegians way. By the start of the last quarter Wanneroo were down by 4 points, but despite a gallant effort in the last quarter, it wasn't enough for them to stay in the contest as Collegians won and despite his best efforts to somehow stay on the ground for the majority of the game, #10 was no doubt telling everybody would listen, that his goal he kicked was the best all season.
Unfortunately for Wanneroo, Scarborough's loss meant Wanneroo will have to travel for the first final now as they will be away at Wembley.
