Round 17
The fight for a spot in the top 3 continues after the shock losses to Uni and Wesley last week. Despite a win against the odds Nth Freo are still in the firing line for relegation and face another huge test against TA’s. The match between CBC and Wesley will decide who earns the right to play in the qualifying final. A loss to either club means a likely elimination finals match up against Kelmscott. Unless they win this match any faint hope of a finals berth for West Coast will be lost completely.
Kelmscott after struggling for the last seven weeks, somehow got up against the odds to defeat Uni. In the context of their season this was huge for Kelmscott. Uni will not take a loss in such an important game lightly and B Grade may be the price that Kalamunda must pay this week.
(1) North Beach 7th (7 & 9) vs. Mt Lawley 10th (0 & 16)
Last Time: North Beach def Mt Lawley by 38 points
Having beaten top five sides in Kelmscott, CBC & Wesley, over the past five games the Beach are on a roll and the match against Mt Lawley will be a walk in the park for them. Mt Lawley were not disgraced last week against Kalamunda, so hopefully will bring that form with them again.
North Beach by 48 points
(2) North Fremantle 8th (5 & 11) vs. Trinity Aquinas 1st (13 & 3)
Last Time: Trinity Aquinas def Nth Freo by 10 points
It has been a tough year for Nth Freo and a win against top side TA’s may be enough to avoid relegation. On the other hand TA’s now have top spot and will want the week off in the first round of finals to rest some of their elite players. It will be close but TA’s are now lifting their intensity with each game as the finals approach.
Trinity Aquinas by 24 points
(3) Kelmscott 5th (9 & 7) vs. West Coast Cowan 6th (7 & 9)
Last Time: West Coast def Kelmscott by 36 points
The Coasters must win to keep the dream alive. Kelmscott just need to win to start planning for their elimination final. This will be a test of the character of both clubs. For whom does it matter most?
West Coast by 12 points
(4) CBC 3rd (11 & 5) vs. Wesley Curtin 4th (11 & 5)
Last time: CBC def Wesley by 9 points
Both clubs lost ground last week in the battle for a qualifying finals berth. Wesley has been hot and cold this year, whilst CBC can at times struggle to maintain the intensity required for the full 100 minutes. I’m sure for CBC elimination final and the prospect of an early exit after last year’s finals disaster is the last thing they want to face in 2015. It will be a ripper of a match and I don’t expect much margin between the two sides at the final siren.
Wesley Curtin by 6 points
(5) Kalamunda 9th (5 & 11) Vs University 2nd (12 & 4)
Last time: University def Kalamunda by 93 points
If Kalamunda can pinch this game and TA’s beat Nth Freo it will probably be enough for the side from the hills to avoid relegation. I really cannot see Uni letting their guard down two weeks in a row and I expect a statement to the competition this week in terms of the winning margin.
University by 60 points
