With only 5 Rounds left we are nearing the end of the regular season and as we have seen last week with a draw between two sides contending for a place in the Top 3 it's going to be a close race for those positions. Plus we have interesting battle on down the other end of the ladder, it could be all too much for Stirling to try and avoid relegation, but the pressure is on Kingsway to try and avoid it as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unravels in the coming weeks.
MrM and the local potato supplier Tony G have been copping some flack in recent weeks and MrM would like this opportunity to defend this great man's honour, I'm sure he'd be doing the same for me. Unwarranted criticism is definitely frowned upon and the real argument should be taken up with the football clubs whom choose not to offer any sort of hot chips, thus could be driving this great man to give away his potatoes for free again because people are not buying them. As we talk about food, MrM ponders, does Scarborough still have the make your own burger station at Millington? Because McDonalds has surely taken their idea, and I'd be asking for royalties. MrM has found his own burger place he loves to frequent and it could be the best of them all.
Enough talk of the food, it makes MrM break out into cold sweats, let's talk football.
Hamersley Carine v Wembley @Carine Open Space MOTR
Last time they met
Wembley 15.13 (103) defeated Hamersley Carine 12.7 (79)
After a good run of form recently from Wembley and Hamerlsey slipping up, dropping 3 in a row, Wembley have caught up and will enter the race for the top 3 if they manage to win here which is why I've awarded this MrM's Match Of The Round.
Hamersley would surely be disappointed with their performances of late and have entered a mid season rut, (much like Fremantle). A loss here could mean the loss of a double chance in finals and the loss of a possible home final. They will need to bring their A game on Saturday. Wembley are on the march again and are looming as a possible smokey for the Grand Final. If they can maintain the current form they will be right in the mix at the end of the season. Should be a good game and one Hamerlsey can not afford to lose. Therefore I think they will pull through with a win here.
Hamersley Carine by 2 goals.
Swan Athletic v Whitford @Fawell Park
Last time they met
Whitford 7.8 (50) defeated by Swan Athletic 9.4 (58)
Swan Ath have a good chance here to make second spot theirs if results go the right way in Saturday. After missing out on two points last weekend they will be out to grab the full 4 this weekend against a side which has put up improved performances in the past few weeks. Whitford will be looking to win here and hope they can string a few more wins together and make a run for fifth spot on the ladder. It is wishful thinking but as MrM has said before anything can happen so expect the unexpected. Swan Ath at home here should be too good.
Swan Athletic by 4 goals
Kingsway v Maddington @Kingsway Reserve
Last time they met
Maddington 12.11 (83) defeated Kingsway 12.8 (80)
Kingsway will need to win here to make sure they aren't going anywhere next season and remain in B Grade. Given how they lost to Maddington last time, I'm sure they won't be taking them too lightly. Maddington will be looking for win number two this season and what better time to do it then against the side they had win nĂºmero uno. Maddington will be hoping they can win a few more games before this season completes. I love an upset so I'll tip Maddngton by a whisker, with the man with the second biggest family name in WA (behind Galati) to get it done for the Bulls.
Maddington by 1 goal
Scarborough v Wanneroo @Millington Reserve
Last time they met
Wanneroo 13.8 (86) defeated Scarborough 8.13 (61)
Welcome to the second instalment of the series as Wanneroo takes on Scarborough for the Mr Mysterious Perpetual Trophy. Scarborough are the best side in the competition it's a fact, they haven't lost since they played Wanneroo last game and their only other loss was somehow against Stirling. They are a much better side then last time around and should be out to flex their muscle and prove they are the best. Wanneroo will need to put in a big effort if they want to win on Saturday. Playing at the biggest ground in B Grade they will need to play 100 minutes of football if they are going to get near Scarborough. Wanneroo to end Scarborough's winning streak and head off to The White Sands to consume a beverage.
Wanneroo by 3 points.
Stirling v Collegians @Richard Guefli Reserve
Last time they met
Collegians 14.13 (97) defeated Stirling 9.9 (63)
The situation is simple for Stirling, win and they have a chance to avoid relegation, lose and they could fall two games behind 8th and time may run out to get them back. Either way, they have everything to play for, given they only trot out 44 players in a Saturday, maybe less, (they forfeited two sides last week), it could prove too difficult. Collegians, well they will just be hoping for next season when they may be able to move back into the wonderful rooms at Dalkeith. Finals is a slim possibility, but it may land in the too hard basket. They should win here though and get a few gents back from Uni holidays next week.
Collegians by 6 goals
Looking forward to catching up with old friends at Scarborough on Saturday. I'll be presenting my trophy and sharing a beverage with the boys. It should be a grand afternoon.
