Well results went the way as planned and it may be too tough to break into that Top 5 for teams outside it. As for relegation well it could all be over for Stirling and Maddngton, but still plenty of time.
MrM enjoyed a lovely morning journey towards Carine on Saturday. It was pleasing to see the Wanneroo Colts build on their strong performances in recent weeks and put it all together and grab a win. They managed to keep Hamersley scoreless after half time and put in the effort required to win more games, hopefully they can keep it up for the rest of the season as most of that side can play again next season. They won by 100+ points.
The Reserves produced another great effort but the time fell on the right side of the ledger as they managed to grab a close win this time after many failed attempts to get one. Much like the colts, if they can play like that for the rest of the season they will trouble a few sides along the way. The Reserves got the second win for Wanneroo by 5 points.
It was up to the league side to go out and grab the clean sweep for Wanneroo on the day. Hamersley started quite strongly and were moving the ball better than Wanneroo in the early stages and were converting their chances as they led Wanneroo by a few goals at quarter time. The second quarter still showed that Hamersley were controling the play and Wanneroo again were failing to convert chances, however managed to peg back the margin by the time they headed into half time.
In the third quarter it was all Wanneroo as they took the lead then opened up a 4 goal lead as they stifled Hamersley whom were controlling it. A goal on the siren for Hamersley meant that at 3 quarter time they had reduced the margin to 3 goals and they were right in the game as the fourth quarter began.
Wanneroo got the jump and worked harder in the last quarter but a late Hamerlsey surge, much like the last encounter, saw them peg back the lead and a few nervous people in the Wanneroo crowd were thankful when the siren went and Wanneroo were ahead. As they let Hamersley kick 3 goals in 3 minutes. But managed won by 7 points and completed the clean sweep for the day.
Congratulations also goes to Justin Joyce from Hamersley and Stephen Healy from Wanneroo whom were awarded All Australian honours at the National Amateur Football Carnival. Justin was captain of WA and Stephen one of the vice captains.
