Round 11
The completion of the mid-semester University exams brings with it in ever increasing player numbers the Tour de Europe or Tour de States. With the absences comes opportunity for players and teams that might not otherwise be possible. For the top 6 sides that could mean a spot in the finals and for the bottom four sides that might mean an unlikely get out of jail card and an opportunity to avoid relegation.
After accounting for Kelmscott Last week, Kalamunda became the first side this year in the bottom four to beat a side in the top 6. Perhaps there may still be a few more upsets to come.
(1) Trinity Aquinas 1st (9 & 1) vs Wesley 5th (6 & 4)
Rnd 2: TA’s def Wesley by 37 points
TA’s have won six straight but their last three wins have been by less than 2 goals. Wesley comfortable winners against North Freo last week, will be more confident of staying with TA’s this time out. It will be close but at home you would expect TA’s to get up.
TA’s by 2 goals
(2) North Beach 7th (3 & 7) vs Kelmscott 4th (7 & 3)
Rnd 2: Kelmscott def North Beach by 29 points
After a surprise loss last week Kelmscott cannot afford another hiccup against North Beach or they may find themselves fighting to keep their place in the five. North Beach looked totally out of depth against Uni and must win to ensure they keep a game clear of Kalamunda in the relegation stakes. I’d be surprised to see the Beach matching it with the bulldogs.
Kelmscott by 5 goals
(3) North Fremantle 8th (2 & eight) vs Mt Lawley 10th (0 & 10)
Rd 2: North Fremantle def Mt Lawley by 56 points
It has been a terrible season for Mt Lawley and all you can hope for is that the club remain competitive for the next 8 games. North Freo should win comfortably and put the club safely out of the red zone.
North Freo by 6 goals
(4) CBC 3rd (8 & 2) Vs University 2nd (8 & 2)
Rnd 2: CBC def University by 28 points
This is the Match of the round and probably the most important for both clubs so far in season 2015. Will CBC be able to stop Uni’s rein of terror by closing down the Uni mid field squad and stopping their run and carry. As one of only two sides that Uni has not put away in season 2015 the club will be itching to prove a point in front of CBC’s home crowd. Conversely CBC does not want to give up a top 3 finish and if they win on Saturday, they will go into the finals series having knocked off the Premiership favourites twice. Another loss to CBC will make Uni start to question why CBC has their measure and make CBC confident their squad have the match ups required. A win could even gift CBC with a home final. That is a critical advantage in front of their large parochial base of supporters. Unfortunately for CBC. I can't see them putting a stop to the current reign of terror being inflicted on other clubs by Luke Dwyer and his merry men.
University by 5 goals
(5) Kalamunda 9th (2 & eight) Vs West Coast Cowan 6th (5 & 5)
Rnd 2: West Coast def Kalamunda by 63 points
Kalamunda caused the first big upset for 2015 by taking out Kelmscott last week. If they can knock off West Coast then they have a real chance of avoiding relegation. Whilst West Coast has lost 4 of their last 5 matches they have been competitive in all games they have lost. However a loss in a game they would expect to win easily, could the coasters 2 games and percentage below Wesley, and the dream of capturing an A Grade Finals spot after some twenty odd years almost impossible. I expect them to win and for the dream to stay alive.
West Coast by 8 goals
