Given the results pretty much went the way everyone expected I will not dwell too much on them. Top 4 is pretty much set, just the order to determine, I can't see the other 6 sides forcing their way in, but they still have time. As for relegation, well it will be a battle, but anything can happen should be an interesting next 9 weeks.
MrM was excited as I jumped out of bed at 4.30am on Saturday morning. Excited because I hadn't died in my sleep as "Man Flu" appears to have gotten the better of MrM this past week, which hampered my efforts on Saturday Night unfortunately.
MrM may have a new name at the club and that's "The Pav". Much like M. Pavlich when a big game/moment comes around MrM was unable to perform on the biggest stage and his efforts were deemed cowardly and was duly awarded the Red Vest sometime in the early hours of Sunday morning. In true Pav fashion I can only compete strongly when nothing is on the line and look good only because my teammates offer nothing, so MrM will improve as we work to September.
The Colts were looking promising and calls rang around the ground for the game to be called off after the first minute as Wanneroo slotted the first goal and took the lead against the best colts side in the competition. Unfortunately for the young Roos it was the only goal they kicked till the last quarter. Still 9 Rounds to go as they can continue to improve and work towards becoming a better side. Collegians won by a lot.
The Reserves got off to a good start and looked like they would continue the form that saw them win their past 3 games, however Collegians clawed the game back near the end of the third quarter. They ended up beating Wanneroo by 4 points. Disappointing for Wanneroo Reserves as this is about the fifth take they have lost by under a kick and should kick themselves as it will be a tough road to make finals from here.
MrM was ready to go for the league game until he noticed B. Schammer wasn't kitted out in his playing gear which ruined MrM's high spirits. In fact it definitely put a dampener on the Wanneroo faithful so much so nobody laughed at one of MrM's classical one liners.
Wanneroo tried put the foot down in the first quarter as they looked promising when going forward, however some wayward kicking cost them opening up a substantial lead. The Wanneroo boys in the crowd found themselves a few Collegians players they took a liking to Jack, but the newly nicknamed player "Ivan" was my favourite.
Wanneroo continued to be wasteful in front of goal and the bad kicking kicking was keeping Collegians in the game as they headed into half time.
Collegians took up the unusual ploy of not going to the change-rooms at half time instead they chose to chat on the ground in an apparent attempt to become one with the ground as they looked for a second half resurgence.
As they chatted at the main break MrM couldn't help but remember the time in 2010 when B.Schammer was caught holding the ball late in the last quarter of the WAFL Grand Final by the only player with a bigger turning circle than MrM, Ashley "Big Red" Hansen.
As the main break ended and Collegians were now one with nature it was time for the third quarter to begin. It was very much of the same in the third as it was the first. Wanneroo worked hard to maintain control and put themselves in front with a 6 goal lead but still with plenty of hard work left to do in the last quarter. After 3 good quested of football Wanneroo continued that in the last as they ran over Collegians and managed to extend their lead by more. Given the closeness of the competition up the top end percentage is important so Wanneroo needed a big win like that.
To my fans at Collegians, apologies MrM couldn't hang around for a beverage. MrM will have a surprise for you all when we head your way in Round 18. I heard I can be thanked for getting your Clubroom development underway. I will accept royalties from you all in the form of hot chips.
