Canning Vale vs Brentwood-Booragoon
Colts;
With a new outlook for the Cougars as a club, our Cougar Cubs were most affected and will probably play the rest of the season with the bare minimum of 16-players. As most of you know, out League side is made up of 10-12 Colts aged players which when the Colts are forced to double up is hampering an already weakened side (thank you Country Footy!!) because these kids are tired and have played a full game by 2.30pm. SOOO - to limit the adverse effect on the League side, only the bare minimum of Colts will be allowed to double up each week... which meant this weeks game was played with 16-players. The first half was quite close as the bigger bodied Brentwood players tried to muscle their smaller, faster Cougar opponents. In the end speed won the day as the Cubs pulled away in the third term and ran out eventual winners. The skill level was comfortably down on what I have seen in the past few years in the Colts Competition and probably a fair reflection of both sides current ladder positions.
Reserves;
The much anticipated comeback of Loves-A-Goal was a success as the Cougars ran out comfortable winners against a trying Booragoon side. The difference in skill, fitness and structure was evident as the Cougars fielded close to their strongest Reserves side in 5-years. We are lucky enough to have nearly 30-players available each week... and although our League side are struggling of late, the 'social footballers' we have at the club are well and truly doing well. We have managed to recruit Ressies players from neighbouring Baseball and Cricket clubs which creates a great atmosphere during the League Game and afterwards at the club as well. The game itself was played in very good spirits and we thank the Booragoon guys who tried hard all day in difficult circumstances and stayed back for a few beers after the game as well.
League;
As the quarter by quarter scores show, Booragoon got off to a flyer and by the time I emerged from the change rooms they had a 5-goal to 2-goal lead. After that though, the Cougars managed to find their feet and structurally broke down the Booragoon side, only conceding another two majors for the rest of the match. It was a timely win after what I have heard was a terrible weekend last weekend and the 4-points takes them two games clear of relegation zone and an intriguing match against Warnbro coming up.
First time all year we had three wins as a club and a great night followed with a 'Lock-In'.
.......so now we are half way through the season and the ladder is supposed to reflect the most accurate picture it has all season in terms of where teams lie in comparison to each other. Having gone missing for 7-weeks, it is very hard for me to comment but I welcome the opinions of those who have kept a keen eye on the results each week.
Look forward to hearing the replies.
