A good weekend of football once again. Collegians had a surprise win over Wembley, Kingsway got a valuable win, Hamersley did it tough against Stirling and Scarborough flexed their muscle against Swan Ath. As for Wanneroo well it was a good day.
MrM arrived at the picturesque Harmony Fields looking for a big effort from all three sides. The colts started the game strongly creating plenty of chances but not always capitalising. After a sluggish second half they managed to grab a win, only there second for the season. If they continue to improve for the rest of the season they may cause a headache for a few teams. They won by a few goals.
The Reserves were quite the opposite to the colts. They got off to a slow start and had to claw their way back into the contest. They were down at quarter time and the start of the second but worked hard to get back those goals. They needed up opening up a good lead which Maddington pegged back a little but Wanneroo Reserves continued their recent form and go the win by a few goals.
MrM ventured up towards the canteen and was pleasantly surprised with what was on offer and the excellent value for money. That was until MrM found out the hot chips were crinkle cut. Although they were cooked well and seasoned perfectly MrM likes his hot chips thick cut and straight. Another pleasant surprise was the fresh fruit on offer to buy. Overall canteen experience 7/10. Sort out those hot chips please.
Ladies Day looked enjoyable and they seemed alright till one lady after the League game called the umpire a "cheating c**t".
MrM prefers that his woman of choice doesn't shout such vulgarities.
The League game was a chance for Wanneroo to get the clean sweep over Maddington for the day. Wanneroo got off to a good start and got on the scoreboard early kicking the first 2 goals of the match. From early on in the contest you could tell that their was feeling in the game ( I know, who would have thought between Wanneroo and Maddington) Wanneroo had the lead and that continued throughout the second quarter and heading into half time Wanneroo squandered a few goal lead as Maddington hit back and managed to reduce that margin by the main break to only a few points.
Both sides played tough contested football for the remainder of the game as the crowd started to get involved in the contest. Some very good banter between both supporter groups and the players. Both support camps found villains from the opposition sides as the third quarter came to an end a little fracas broke out as 1 player from each side was given a 15 minute cooling period.
Things got exciting in the last quarter as Wanneroo fought hard to hang onto their lead as Maddington kept coming all day. In the end though Wanneroo managed to hold onto the lead as they kicked a few late goals.
Thank you for the hospitality Maddington the beers after the game were much appreciated. As was the food left over from ladies day. I can see Maddington winning a few more games this season as they try to lift themselves off the bottom of the ladder.
