No real surprises with the results is their folks? Apart from no team being undefeated now. The wet weather looks like it made for some close games of football.
Apologies for the lateness of this write up MrM has been swamped with work lately. Not to mention I'm still recovering from the one of the coldest and windiest days I've ever been involved at the football.
The Reserves game between Stirling and Wanneroo will come close to the single worst game of football you may witness in B Reserves this season. It wasn't pretty football and with the wind and rain both teams struggled to even get the ball down to one end of the ground. Stirling came back after being down kicking into the breeze in the last quarter and pinched the lead. Only for Wanneroo to claw it back and snatch the lead back within the final few minutes to grab win nĂºmero uno for the season. Hopefully Wanneroo can build on that for the rest of the season.
Well Stirling might not be able to serve up a Colts side. But they can serve up a few bargains at the canteen. Not a bad effort. A nice selection of hot dogs, or sausage sizzle and the hot chips were pretty good too. Inside a lovely fireplace which ensured you stayed toasty enough if you were close to it. MrM was satisfied. 7/10 great work. Stirling.
MrM did have to laugh though as he noticed a sign which said come play for Stirling. The gent they used in the photo was wearing his East Perth shorts, with his Stirling jumper on. Not sure what Subiaco would think of that as Stirling falls in the Lions District, but that's for another conversation.
Well time for an important League game. Stirling were kicking with the breeze and got the early jump on Wanneroo and got a goal inside the first minute. It could have been a lot worse at quarter time except for some wayward kicking from Stirling missing 3 set shots, even with a tough breeze you'd expect to kick. Wanneroo managed to work hard into the breeze and kick a few goals. In the second half some wayward kicking cost Wanneroo a chance to fully capitalise and have a healthy lead heading into half time. The wind also caused havoc for them as they opened up their lead to 3 goals at half time with plenty of work to do in the second half for both sides.
As the rain started to fall again and the breeze grew stronger Stirling managed to claw there way back as Wanneroo's lead slowly diminished. Stirling played some good football as they edged back into the contest. They still trailed by a few points at three quarter time but as Stirling's Reserve side showed anything was possible. Stirling's hope of a comeback were dented when Wanneroo kicked the first 3 goals of the last quarter in quick succession as they led by 4 goals 10 minutes into the last as the fat lady warmed up her vocal chords. A consolation goal for Stirling late in the piece wasn't enough as they lost by nearly 5 goals. Wanneroo's win meant they still maintain touch with the top sides of the ladder whilst the gap widens between 5th and 6th on the ladder.
We are only a third of the way through the season now, still plenty of hard work to do for all sides.
MrM would enjoy hearing from some others, I feel like Russell Crowe in "A Beautiful Mind" I'm just talking to myself and my alter ego.
