There is really only three games which will have a bearing on the composition of the Table this week (assuming everything goes according to form) and that is NB V NF, Kelmscott V Wesley and CBC vs West Coast Cowan.
As an aside I notice a great topic being discussed on the Oz Footy site under “Amateur Status Working Party” with some quite informative and reasonable comment by King, Hawk Eye, Slayed & others. If there is momentum for a change put your opinions forward.
Good luck to all teams on Saturday!!
(1)North Beach 8th (1 & 4) Vs North Fremantle 7th (2 & 3)
NF easily accounted for Kalamunda last weekend and sits only one game outside the top five. North Freo have played 4 of the top 6 in the first five weeks so to be fair their position in the A Grade Ladder is probably understated. North Beach on the other hand has been really disappointing. When it counted last week against CBC they didn’t come to play. I really can’t see North Freo being troubled in this match and they have a gun up forward in Kym Monteath and ex Docker player Brett Peake really starting to show some form. Maybe in front of a parochial crowd at the new clubrooms North Beach may find something extra but I don’t think it will be nearly enough.
The Magpies by 5 goals
(2)Kelmscott 4th (4 & 1) Vs Wesley Curtin 3rd (3 & 2)
As I said in the Rnd 5 wrap up, what a difference a week can make. Kelmscott despite their protestations about fly in fly our players and injuries just didn’t show up last week. A 100 point hiding suggests they have a very big Achilles heel. Much to my surprise Wesley somehow got up by 8 points against the formidable University side. Honestly I didn’t see that coming and full credit to Kris Millar. It should be a ripper of a match up at Kelmscott and if the Yarran boys are back, it should be a very close encounter. I tend to think that the inexperience of the Kelmscott boys will be the difference and the old hands at Wesley may just scrape come through, so I will go with them.
Wesley by 2 goals
(3)CBC 2nd (4 & 1) Vs West Coast Cowan 3rd (4 & 1)
The CBC boys easily accounted for North Beach last Saturday by 8 goals. But given the Beach results this year we don’t necessarily give too much to that outcome. On the other hand, WCC my 2015 favourites are just going beautifully. The best Full forward in the competition booted 7 majors out of 13 and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him kick the ton this year. The West Coast boys are truly the working class example of what can be achieved with good coaching and determination. CBC will not be any pushovers but I expect the WCC boys to do the job.
West Coast by 2 goals
(4)Kalamunda 9th (0 & 5) Vs Trinity Aquinas 1st (4 & 1)
Again what a difference a week can make. TA’s absolutely humiliated by University two weeks ago, bounced back with the most emphatic performance by any side this year and defeated Kelmscott by 100 points. Kalamunda are winless and despite a much better performance against North Freo last Saturday, still lost by over 5 goals. At home you could expect Kalamunda to perform a little better but unless TA’s come to the game thinking a win is a formality it is impossible to tip against them.
TA’s by 7 goals
(5)University 6th (3 & 2) Vs Mt Lawley 10th (0 & 5)
It must have been a huge disappointment for Luke Dwyer to see his Uni side go down to Wesley after putting away Trinity Aquinas the previous week. It won’t worry him though because he knows the important part of the season is still to come. Having said that, Uni are struggling big time percentage wise and they will need to rack up an 80 point to 100 point win to get back to the field. We all know you need to finish top 3 to have a serious chance in the finals and at the moment the Uni boys are actually sitting in 6th spot. I would never have picked that! Mt Lawley has shown in the last two weeks against Wesley and WCC that they have turned their season around and I certainly expect them to continue to improve. A four goal loss to powerful West Coast combination last week shows they WILL be competitive. I don’t think it will be enough to get their first win for the season but I expect the improvement to be enough to gradually claw the Mt Lawley boys back from the relegation zone over the remainder of the season.
