Thanks for Kermit for posting the scores in the other B Grade Round 5.
Looks like we had a great weekend of football once again. Swan Ath remain undefeated, Hamersley suffered their first loss, Maddington grabbed their first win and Collegians got the job done against Stirling. As for Wanneroo, well they finished strong against a good Scarborough side.
MrM arrived bright and early on Saturday due to the young ones playing Auskick parking was at a premium. It was about 9:30am when a man from Scarborough approached me said "Hello MrM is it too early for my beer?" As he was the first person to approach me all season I obliged, but not till later in the day.
The young Wanneroo colts got off to a great start against Scarborough. Leading at quarter time and half time. It wasn't until the third quarter where Scarobrough really started to play some football. In the end a spirited fightback from Wanneroo wasn't enough to get the win. I'm sure they will be ready to bounce back next game against Kimgsway as Stirling disappointingly have no colts side. Scarborough won by about 3 goals (from memory)
The Wanneroo Reserves were looking for their first win of the season but came up short against a good Scarborough side. Sloppy ball use and some bad decisions mad for ugly viewing. Wanneroo started off strong but after half time they never really in the contest but still lost by a few goals much like the colts. MrM was hoping it wasn't a prelude to the league game later on.
As usual MrM indulged himself in a few hot chips and once again the canteen at Wanneroo delivered. Hot chips and a burger are the staple choice of food for MrM and I'm happy that the canteen meets my requirements.
It was a good start for Wanneroo in the league game. In the first quarter they capitalised on Scarborough's mistakes and slotted 4 goals as they moved the football with relative ease. It was a much tighter second quarter as only 2 goals were kicked for the entire quarter. It was ping pong with the ball going from each 50 metre arc back and forth. Heading into the main break Wanneroo were confident and up and about but as was said, and as many knew teams have come out firing in the third quarters as Wanneroo have failed to keep up the pressure.
As I was polishing off my second lot of hot chips the third quarter began and Scarborough jumped out of the blocks and got the first few goals. As the quarter went on Scarborough continued to flex their muscle and show why they as are much fancied team this season. As the three quarter time siren sounded Wanneroo's lead had gone and Scarborough opened up a nice lead for themselves as the home crowd fell silent.
Wanneroo kicked an early goal in the last quarter and that was enough for the faithful to find their voice and apparently some clackers that were making their way throughout the crowd. Wanneroo started to get a roll on as Scarborough squandered easy opportunities and they hit the lead with about 10 minutes to go as the crowd was now in full voice and the hands were clacking. Wanneroo finished strong and ended up winning by nearly 3 goals. A victory they needed to maintain touch with the top teams on the ladder.
It was a good day at Wanneroo as the Roos took home the "Mr Mysterious Cup". I'm very much looking forward to the return game at "The Mill" MrMs old stomping ground.
Let's get the ball rolling on other games. Don't tell me more clubs have imposed bans on players commenting on here. It's truly disappointing that clubs need to do that, just let people have fun.
