Great day for footy on Saturday, wasn’t too hot the rain stayed away. Can’t ask for much more
Our young blokes picked up their first win for the season and kicked off a great day for the club, we had better skills and movement around the ground than previous weeks. Our boys are building slowly and it was good to see them get around each other after a nice win. The Maali colts play a very open style which opened us up on the counter attack but their skills where a bit off and at times they tried to overuse the ball which led to turnovers. Hopefully this win boosts the numbers on the training track so they can continue to learn each other’s tendencies
The reserves game started with some very strong attack on the ball by both teams which I’m sure kept up all game. The final score line shows us winning by about 6 goals which from what I saw was probably due to our skills moving into the forward line than anything else. I noticed the ball going into canning’s forward line Long and High a lot which any defender would prefer to low and direct.
The league game was a very scrappy affair with both teams butchering the ball around the ground. I don’t remember the last game I’ve played in with that many basic skill error turnovers for both sides. The teams tried to make up for the skills with their run and carry and to an extent that started to open the game up, but when the teams can’t convert it keeps the game close. We got a lead up on Canning early and held it. 3 goals was the final margin but it could’ve gone either way with both sides missing some sitters throughout the game.
