Canning Vale vs cwp
Colts: cwp got off to a flyer in this game carrying a comfortable lead into the first quarter, however cv showed they were here to play kicking an unanswered 5 goals to make it a very tight contest going into the main break. The second half was much like the first with cwp seemingly having the upperhand going into the last, but the last quarter much like the second with ball mainly going in and out of the the canning Vale forward 50, in the end coolbinia just holding on for a tight 3 point win.
Canning Vale 11.6.72 - cwp 11.9.75

Reserves.
Canning Vale started hot kicking the first 5 of the game to zero to end the first quarter very well on top, but cwp came out firing piling on 5 unanswered majors to make the second half firing, I didn't see much of the rest as I was warming up for the following fixture. What I did catch Was the final kick of the game which would have won it for the cougars after the siren but was a very difficult shot to convert the beer the circumstances although was extremely close to bringing down the house. At the end cwp just getting up in a sharp shooting contest.
Cv 10.5.65- cwp 11.3.69

League
Was a well fought hard game of footy and was full of great running efforts and plenty of bodies being put on the line.
In the first quarter canning Vale were good out of the middle and went forward quite a bit without making the most of their chances with us kicking enough to keep the heads up.
In the second I think we got on top for most of it but canning Vale finished of well kicking I think 3 goals in the last couple of minutes once again related to all 3 games very close at half time.
In the third quarter the heat was starting to kick in with alot of fumbles and unnecessary turnovers with coolbinia finding some form and canning Vale looking a bit shaky, coolbinia going into the final Break by just over a goal.
The last quarter the cougars kept us without a single goal and their young runners made quiet an impact.
Cv 8.15.63- cwp 8.8.56

The cougars running young midfield and big forwards were impressive for me and looking forward to hosting them later in the season.

Not too dissimilar to the Hawks15 Write up - below my opinion of the games, of which all three were decided by less than 7-points;

Canning Vale vs Coolbinia WP
The Colts was probably most affected by the early morning wind at the Cougar Den with CWP having the breeze in the first term and taking a 4-goal lead. The second term things were mirrored and the Cougar Cubs evened things up. Much of the same in the second half as the third term was dominated by CWP and then the Cougars had to fight hard in the 4th to get back square. In the end the CWP side held on for a 3-point win. Two losses in two games for the Cubs (both within 2-goals).. promising signs for them though, but now 8-points adrift of where they could be should they have played 4-quarter footy.

*Interesting to note here the CWP Umpire was yelling at spectators and even gave 50m penalty away for 'abuse'?? Not sure on the rules of that?? - I actually heard him tell the crowd "that is a free kick every day of the week"... Now I have no issue with the decisions made but his biting back at the crowd only makes it worse for himself... honestly he carried himself like a tool and will cop more of the same for the rest of the year if he carries on like that! He even refused to go back on the field at half time as he 'didn't want his picture taken'??? Strange guy to say the least.

Back to the footy - the Reserves game saw yours truly be promoted to the Super Twos and what a game! We got off to a flyer being 4-goals to 1-goal up at the first break. Went to sleep in the second term and probably didn't put in enough hard yards when kicking against the wind. The CWP 2's managed to square things up and take a narrow lead at the main break. The third term saw an arm wrestle as the wind died off and CWP again too a narrow lead into the final stanza. The fourth saw CWP get out to a 2-goal lead before the SuperTwos from CV pegged the gap back and took the lead (albeit 5-mins after we should have after this fat man fell over in the goal square when trying to kick a goal (similar to that of Luke Parker on the weekend with the opposite result!!) With the game on the line, we then gave away a STUPID 50m penalty which the CWP player converted from directly in front putting them 5-points up with about 2-minutes to go. The last 2-minutes saw us with a quick clearance and some hard at it footy in our forward line as CWP defended furiously only for a quick kick going out on the full right before the siren. This left one of our guys with a set shot 40m out on the boundary to win the game. Heartbreakingly he JUST missed the goal leaving CWP with a 4-point win. Personally, I felt we LOST the game rather than them winning it - but that is footy and again, the Cougars sit 0-2.

*Side note on this one - are players allowed to shake the post after the siren?? hahaha

League game was a belter. An inaccurate Cougar side against a well drilled CWP side. We probably had the better legs in the game and ran away 7-point victors after a great last term. Our Skipper 'Duck' was unbelievable having 15-20 touches in that term and countless clearances. CWP are very skillful and make good decisions with the footy in hand... and we like to run the ball and use our pace and fitness. Interesting to say we had big forwards because we have no one over 6ft in the team barring our ruckman hahaha - it was our midfield and young small forwards who kicked all of our goals. In the end it was a really good to watch played in great spirits by both teams, good hard footy with players respecting each other and pulling each other off the ground etc...

Looking forward to having Kenwick at home this week and more importantly looking forward to them staying back for a beer like they did last time at home - supporting the home clubs bar is something that I feel is paramount to Amateur Footy.

Three games decided under 7-points - good day of footy.

some good write-ups this week, it's always good to hear how the games went round the league from a few different perspectives

Might want to check the fixtures LAG the game is at Mills Park so will definitely be there for a beer.

Once again our colts found themselves looking at a decent deficit at quarter time after allowing Warnbro to get the jump on them. after that the game evened up a bit but Warnbro probably still had the better of it, their players where running in packs and seemed to have an extra number to every contest.

The reserves was much the same for the first half, Warnbro running in numbers and working for each other but unlike the colts game our 2s never really managed to stem the tide for long and ended up on the wrong end of a 100 point demolition.

The league game was probably a very exciting game to watch but as 1 point losses tend to do our players really took it hard especially having conceded the final 3 goals to give Warnbro that 1 point lead. It was a back and forth affair with 18 points probably being the biggest margin, both teams defences held up really strong repelling attack after attack and trying to set up the counterattacks. Warnbro have a few players who were just finding the ball and space to use it all day. hopefully our players can use this as motivation moving forward.

Ahh good, I thought so, I like playing there - one of the lads said we were at home??

Nevertheless, the Cougars will be at Mills Park in numbers after the game as usual.

thought i would do my bit and offer some feedback from the Canning games each week.

Didnt get to see the colts or ressies this week but went down for a beer and the main game at Wyong. Club is apparently being rennovated but they seemed to have done well to get a bar and canteen set up. ended up scoffing down two burgers before the third quarter was done.

to the game, a good start by the tigers after a bad day in round 1. Seemed like the new coach had them fired up. 4 goals to 1 in the 1st and looking good. 2nd quarter was Norandas and a few decent players doing well. scores were about even at the main break. Third was a bit of an arm wrestle, some very dodgy umpiring and I am not sure I rememeber Canning getting a kick from the men in orange.

3qtr time Noranda were about 9.15 and Tigers 9.6 or close enough. Must say both teams were playing good footy a sign of the comp this year I think. Not sure what was said in the huddle but the boys in the fantastic new heritage jumpers ran all over the hawks in the last kicking 5 to none. all this and they had a red card and 1 or 2 on the bench. Was exciting to watch and word around the bar was last weeks loss was far from expected.

We seem to have a powerful forward line and a fit team all round.

not sure if I will get to Rockingham for the Warnbro game next week but I will see if I can get some news for you gents.

All the best for round 3

Spot on Tigerpoint, canning fell asleep in the second qtr to let Noranda have a sniff, with #5 and #8 having a day out through the middle collecting a lot of the ball (very classy players)
got the job done in the end and came home in the last as some of the senior players started to step up.
will be a good match this week against Warnbro.

Canning pick up some handy players over the summer, with Salmon and Figgs from Perth and the also managed to keep handy FF Curtis from Peel.

If it was 9.15 Noranda and 9.6 Canning SP at 3 quarter time I feel like Noranda let Canning in with a sniff. 9 more scoring shots says a lot. If they put half of them away Canning SP are 5 goals down at 3 quarter time.

But obviously Noranda have some kicking issues. 4.16 the week before! Yikes!!!

Bit late but bette late then never.

First I would like to thank thornlie football club for great hospitality, was great.

First we had the colts well I was in a little bit of shock seeing high Wycombe get there ass handed to the second to the footy every time. Got thornlie on a day where they were a lot hungrier.

Reserves was pretty tight until half time next half was all the lions piling on the goals to get up by an easy 100.

League thornlie come out firing the first couple with 2 goals in it at Q time. 2nd Q was goal for goal. 3rd thornlie kicked away and I thought it wasn't looking good for the dogs. But in the last was all the dogs kicking 5 late ones but was all over. Well done to thornlie I think yas should be happy with all 3 sides and for this year.
