Warnbro vs Canning Vale

Tough day for the young Cougars as Warnbro won all three games.

Colts;
Didn't get to see any of this game because of work, but after speaking to some of the guys, the Cougar Cubs had a very slow start only to claw their way back and lose by a goal. With 7/8 Colts doubling up to play League as well, there are promising signs for our Cubs as they progress through the season.. which says the same for the Swans Colts.

Reserves;
The Social SuperTwos had an interesting outing this week. Lot's of first time footballers within the side and yet they were still competitive, losing each quarter by about two-goals which was a fair reflection of the talent of the two sides. Yours truly, anticipating his retirement into the SuperTwos was disappointingly held back at work and missed his chance and was forced to suit up with the big boys!

League;
Warnbro have much the same side as last season, perhaps with the addition of big 'Wahoo' who played two years ago (has thighs the size of my torso!), Hildy (number 5) was outstanding and gave our midfielders a bath and number 7 up front was dangerous as well. Their full back who I played on was also solid addition to the side - believe he has come from Country SA. Basically, they were good without being outstanding.
I had the honour of being the second oldest in a very young Cougars outfit who tried hard all day, had promising moments but really lacked the polish of the guys who left for Country Footy this season & the retirements. Our movements forward were really the key as we struggled to get the ball past the half back line. Again, as in the Reserves, the Warnbro side were probably two goals better each quarter - a fair reflection of the teams on the day.

Be interested to hear some other write-ups.
Loves kicking goals, passing them off is only an option.

Good write up on each game LAG. Would just like to add that all games were played in a great spirit, and for rd1 think the level was quite good. Great to see your Ressies, and later league having a few frothies before departing. Im sure the boys will reciprocate in the return bout !!!

A big day for the CWP club with 5 wins from 5 teams (including thirds and Integrated). At home to Brentwood Booragoon, we weren’t too sure what to expect from the incoming team from C3. Although the scores look a little lopsided across all three games, the colts and league games were in the balance at three quarter time. Interestingly CWP were kicking against the breeze in the final quarter of each game yet managed to kick away in all of those quarters. Apart from the league team this might be an indication of a lack of match fitness on the part of Brentwood Booragoon and hopefully they can rectify that over the coming weeks.

In the league, Brentwood got off to a fly, kicking the first goal of the game (against the breeze) to stun CWP who had dicked around in their forward 50 for about 5 minutes; only managing to score a solitary behind in the process. CWP got the next 3 to lead by 11 points at the first break. Just before quarter time, one of the Brentwood boys limped to the bench with what looked like a serious knee injury. CWP managed to extend the lead by a bit in the ensuing two quarters, with another leg injury to a Brentwood player, early in the fourth preceding an avalanche of goals to blow out the final margin.

Good bunch of blokes at Brentwood and all games played in great spirit. Best of luck for the rest of the season boys.

THORNLIE V MOSMAN PARK

LEAGUE-
Pretty good game at the smallest oval in the southern hemisphere.
The breeze was flowing, Thornlies mullets were waving and the goals started piling.
From word go both teams came out to play, plenty of little wrestles around the ground kept the crowd entertained and the umpires book busy (several yellows, no bookings).
Thornlie kicked the first of the game and never lost the lead from then on.
Mossy are a fairly good unit, similar to last year other than a few extra talls i noticed. There a top 5 side..
As for Thornlie, we were stoked to get a win up there and have 4 points on the board nice and early.
Looking forward to seeing HW this weekend and have our first hit out at our much loved home turf.

Colts HW way to good for a young canning side also lacking numbers with 15 rocking and players coming into the game throwing boots on at half time.

Ressies was tight in the first Q after that was all canning. In the end hw getting the last 3 goals to make the score look a little bit more respectable.

League Hw jumping out too a 4 goal head start to canning 1 goal. After that was goal for goal awesome game to watch.

Cannings new heritage jumpers look great too.

Been a busy week so I haven’t had a chance to put my writeup on here but here it is,

The colts got things underway although the Score shows that Noranda were a much stronger side our boys showed some good signs. After letting Noranda have it all early and from memory the quarter time score was 6 goals to 1. We settled things up and our young blokes seemed to adapt to the different play style as most of them are coming straight from the 17s/ year 12’s. in the end our lack of a bench came back in the end and Noranda kicked the last couple to push the margin out to 10 goals.

From what I saw in the reserves our lads weren’t far off the pace for the most part just lacking some polish. Noranda used their advantage to build a lead then finished off the fitter side running out 7 goal winners in the end.

The big game was a scrappy hard fought contest with both sides not wanting to give an inch. Noranda struggled with accuracy in front of goals but kept pressing forcing us into mistakes and turnovers. The first half ended with us leading by a few goals but Noranda’s scoreline being 0.5. We knew they weren’t going to keep missing forever and a small lead can evaporate quickly should they start firing. Noranda certainly came out with some fire. Kicking their first goal of the game very quickly and even though we responded the game was well and truly on. There were more Holding the Ball decisions in the second half than I think I have ever seen with both sides ramping up the tackling pressure. Noranda just couldn’t convert often enough and the final score was Noranda 4.16-40 Kenwick 9.9-63. Noranda have a very good side and I’m certainly looking forward to the next time we play them down our way after both teams have found their legs.
