The next time Maddington had a shot at goals, said Maddo player whacked him, whilst everyone was watching shot go through for a point. It was only after he did not get back to have the kick did anyone realise anything had happened, By this time Maddo player was half way back to the interchange bench. Give the Roo is credit though, tough as nails and was back in the frey a few minutes later.

You knew you had played when you played against Wanneroo, just ask Peter Busustow, they had a few physco's out there, who would whack you if you just looked at them

I was at that game. My recollection is that it was one of the twin sons of the Maddington coach who kept getting whacked. The son was taken off and another player was sent out to even the score. After doing the job, he came off the ground straight away. I remember watching him go in the ground and deliver the hit. Watched him from the moment he ran onto the oval.

There was the two twins, but Begg played at full forward, on the Roo's player in question, and had cracked his Ribs in the previous final. Every whack the Wanneroo bloke got in his career he most probably deserved, he was not shy in giving them out

Ive attached a copy of Maddingtons team sheet from the game. It shows the reports made by the umpires on the day.

Maddo had a fair side back then mate with a few old Swannies boys in Outridge, Davey, Williams, Allen & the Kiernan boys plus Fitzgerald must have been injured that day?
The likes of Begg, Kinross, Tolan, Davis & Clark all played WAFL footy as well.

Where did you pull that from Swany, bloody brilliant brings back memories. The third report on there is the one I mentioned. Your first name not Bill by any chance?

Definitely not Bill. I used to do the Previous Encounters page in the Gazette for a number of years. Once the SFL folded, all their paperwork was stored at the WAAFL for a number of years. It was about to be thrown out when I went in and picked up as much as I could. I have team sheets for all clubs except Canning and Mandurah from 1984-93, and then from 1999-2008, as well as minutes form 1992-2008. I also retrieved minutes from the South Suburban Murray FL dating back to 1960. There was one box I didnt get to in time which had reports dating back to the early 1970, as well as clearances and more team sheets.
I'll be scanning it all next year then handing it to the State Library, and using the information to compile history books on the SSMFL and SFL.
Ive added one more from the opening game of the 1984 season in the Reserves between Applecross and Fremantle. The reports section cracks me up every time I read it.

The sunday league sounded like fun.

Did anybody try to kick and handball or just punch each other?

Maybe that's why the WAAFL is still going cos actual football is played.
