Whats the going rate for club umpires these days?? How many clubs have guys umpiring double ups IE reserves and league or colts and ressies?? There is a shortage of decent club umpires out there so it is the old supply and demand scenario where some guys can almost name their price

Last season we had 3 people who contacted our club asking for $150 to $200 a game for C reserves. Going rate was $110 if my memory serves me correctly

Have herd that the WAAFL want neutral club umpires this year for all Grades below C1
Which means that each club will have to nominate an umpires to go into your grade pool
This would mean that your club umpire would not umpire your games
A umpire from the other teams in your grade would umpire your games

THIS WAY NO CLUB CAN COME BACK AND SAY THAT THE OTHER CLUB UMPIRE WAS A CHEAT

It will be brought up at the coming WAAFL AGM I here on the 18th February

As a club umpire I would be willing to give this a go for a season and see how it works. The remuneration is going to be the telling factor - who pays the umps and how much??
The league does set a rate but some clubs do pay a little above this for different reasons. This is going to be interesting to watch unfold ....

I wonder if any clubs will be happy to receive Mosman Parks umpire?

I think you will find the WAAFL will set the pay scale so many club umpires will be disadvantaged as some get $150 per match where as the WAAFL umpires get less...

Clubs will love it providing they can find willing umpires to do it as many umpires will want to be involved with a club or are often club people....

Whilst there are a few questionable umpires around the place the majority are not cheats...

The WAAFL would be better off observing the umpires that get bad reports or complaints thats if clubs actually lodge them or is it just people complaining on...

Scenario

My club is playing for a spot in the finals and needs to win the last game to do it?

Our game will be umpired by the umpire from the team we need to jump?

Or their game is umpired by our ump?

If this sort of stuff is taken into consideration with umps being assigned to stop this happening I am all for it?

I am for anything that makes the umpiring less biased.

What about all umps have to do the grade higher than them or below to stop that even?

Assign them to games North or South of the River so they dont have to travel far or just go back to a pool of umps allocated each week across the grades but each club still has to supply them or they are fined?

I am not having a crack at anyone and just trying to see a workable fair system.

The bonus of Club umps is they are at the game and if no one turns up someone else can do it from the club. They get to be apart of their own club and get to hang out with them.

I dunno food for thought any one else get some suggestions?

We cannot have a comp without these people so we need to try and make it easy for them as well I guess.
