No real shock in any of these results. For a ground that resembled a complete mud pit the Wanneroo v Wembley game was quite high scoring.
MrM posted a picture on Friday of what the ground looked like so he was surprised to see that some people were in shock of the ground when they arrived on Saturday. MrM knows of a few closet OzFooty fans, not members just regular readers so you should all sign up and join in the wonderful banter of MrM.
MrM arrived early to watch some second colts action (Brett Jones Colts for those following at home) they kicked 8 goals in the first half against a good Collegians side. However they only kicked one goal after half time to see Collegians run over the top and win by a few goals.
Our Reserves were facing a well drilled Wembley side. One they lost to by 18 goals in Round 1. Wembley started out well kicking the first two goals Wanneroo hit back kicking the next two, what a high scoring first quarter. It was again close in tue second quarter before the heavens opened up after half time. Turning an already muddy ground into the newest attraction North of the River, Lake Wanneroo.
The muddy conditions late in the game meant scoring was tough and Wembley just got over the top of a gallant Wanneroo side. It was difficult to tell who was who at the end of the game as Wembley's all white strip was now all black.
Wanneroo v Wembley in the league game was going to be a close contested game because of conditions as our newly reformed lake had slowly begun to lose water and resembled a bog.(see my picture attached)
Wembley got the jump on Wamneroo early but the young boys from Wanneroo got a few back to have scores level by quarter time. The heavens were still opening as our new water resource (lucky for all those on scheme water) was still in good supply. It was a tough day for forwards as many a kick went astray and the delivery wasn't the best. Not to mention the fact they were playing under water. Anyway heading in to half time Wembley kicked a few goals and saw themselves with a a goal buffer at the main break. The game was much of the same after half time a tough hard slog of a contest with little to talk about. Once Wanneroo fell behind it was always going to be tough to come back and win. They put up a valiant effort and fell short in the end. They have now lost the last 4 and face Scarborough next week. If last game between these sides was any indication this game will be another tough slog of a contest.
It was now time for our first colts side to play (Drew Banfield Colts). Interesting to note that Wanneroo decided to brave the rain and warm up at 3qrt time of the league game, whilst Wembley sat under cover and enjoyed the comfort of being close to each other. Probably why Wanneroo jumped out to a 3 goal lead by the first quarter break. Wanneroo led for most of the game and the strong vocal crowd did wonders as it got them across the line in the end as they kicked a few late goals in the game to win and enjoy singing the song.
I may get punished for mentioning this but I did enjoy Wembley's song. It was quite catchy, not as good as the Wanneroo tune, but it went alright.
Bless them allllllllllllllll.
Special mention to the Wembley boys who stayed around and enjoyed a beer after all 3 games.
The rain slowly eased up as MrM received the news that for the first time ever Wanneroo Showgrounds will be hosting the 2014 tough mudder challenge or if anyone knows any female homosexuals we will now he hosting mud wrestling championships. So get in contact with MrM is you are interested.
