Went down to watch some of Canningvale vs Thornlie in horrible conditions.
Caught most of the colts match which was a good tough contest between both teams. In the end Thornlie showed its class and was able to run over Canningvale in the end.

The heavens opened up during the ressies and canningvale were able to use the strong breeze to their advantage and come up with 4 goal lead at q time. Interesting tactics by the canningvale coach to drop a spare man all day which i'm surprised Thornlies coach never reacted and moved their spare man to canningvales which made it hard for the Thornlie forwards as they could only half canningvales extra man for so long...shows Thornlies ressies coach inexpereince.
Canningvale were able to hold on for a gusty win in the end. BTW, dissappointed in Thornlies ressies coach for abusing the umpires most of the day from the sidelines.

Only caught a bit of the league but from the scoreline Canningvale had the better of Thornlie...good to see Thornlie blooding a lot of youth in their leauge which will help further down the track.

Canningvale put a great day on for #doitfordamo even though it the weather was kind.

Sounds like you're after the ressies coaching job down at Thornlie hey Cougar Time?

Send in your resume as a spectator mate and they might give you a call.

From what I can see he can't be doing that bad a job as Thornlie ressies are sitting in second last time I checked.

Anyways any updates from the other games?

Fantastic Day at the Den with the CVSFC and Thornlie FC 'Doing it for Damo'

Colts;
The Colts was a good game considering the difference in ladder position. The Thornlie youngsters just had a bit too much class and a few too many bigger guys who took important grabs in the last term as the Cubs tried to surge forward to lessen the two goal lead the Lions had. Great last stanza to watch as one team attacked and the other ferociously defended. Kudos to both teams on the spirit in which the game was played and a special mention to Damo's cousin 'Bundy' who had probably his best game for the club.

Reserves;
The Cougars have gone 2 from 2 against the Thornlie in the twos this season, which proves they can match it against the top sides as we go through the second half of this season. In trying conditions this game was decided in the first term when the Cougars got out to a three goal lead. In that weather, it may as well have been 6-goals. Tough to come back from there when kicks were going 20m at the best of times. Great game to watch with both teams competing hard for the ball.

League;
Well, we did it for Damo!! Knowing Thornlie would be a tough opposition, and in trying conditions and circumstances, and having to slightly alter our game plan without the big man we knew each quarter would be a battle and we had to win each of them. The Cougars got out to a 2-goal lead in at the first change against the wind. The second saw the Cougars go with the wind and extend that lead to 3-goals. The third term, the Coach asked us to really put in as we were against the wind - that we did, whilst keeping Thornlie scoreless, we also allowed ourselves to hurt the Lions going the other way as we banged on another 2-goals. The final term saw another tussle as Thornlie kicked the only goal of the quarter. A low scoring affair, but 100% the result our strong club needed.

Just on Damo, the signs are looking a little better and better every day. As a club, we have raised over $30,000 in a week wich will all go towards Damo's long road to recovery. I would like to personally thank the Thornlie guys, not only for the spirit in which they fought out the game, but for the manner in which they conducted themselves with after losing the game and afterwards where many of them were spending their hard earned dollars behind our bar.

Cheers.
Loves kicking goals, passing them off is only an option.

Just a point to note: - I believe the CWP player responsible for the hit on Damo got 3-weeks at the Tribunal last night.......!

Yep, that he did much to the consternation of the CV president who wants the CWP hanged and wouldn't accept the independent tribunal's decision and carried out his frustrations on 6PR and his on going protestations to individual members of the tribunal. This is despite the evidence of the Canning Vale captain who from all accounts is a top guy, from your umpire.

What do we do now LAG? Accept the decision and make sure that Damo and his family get the best financial and emotional support or continue with the president's call for his head and point fingers? According to channel 7 tonight, it seems that the CWP player feels so bad for Damo that he wont play footy again. Do you want to see the return clash in 6/7 weeks as a bloodbath (course you wont be involved as you may be on a fishing trip) or do CV and CWP get together and make it a special game in honour of Damo? You decide.

This is once again, again an unfortunate situation and we should be all hoping for the well being of Damo and his family, not an effing lynch mob.

Agree that the focus should be on Damo. But if a player was found guilty of an offence that has caused this injury, then 3 weeks does not make sense.

Hey fellas as I'm not involved in this grade and didn't see the game what actually happened, without sounding heartless I take it no umpire report was made on the day, was their any reaction from the canningvale players towards the CWP player or was it a complete accident. Heard the tribunal result. 3 weeks if for an accident is unfair and if it wasn't an accident 3 weeks is on the light side given the outcome (as we have seen in the AFL the worse the outcome the longer the penalty). Not alot of other information on what actually happen just what people think should happen now.

Well done to Canningvale on your efforts in raising that money. I'm sure the player and family greatly appreciate your support.

I think you need to grow up a bit and stop this shit stirring mate. The guy has expressed deep remorse and even stated that he probably won't be playing again.

Your post last week came down pretty quickly and I think a lot of the bullshit you've been posting here has been really detrimental to the great work canning vale have done in trying to make the best of a horrible situation.

Obviously 'high pants', swanky, dicky boy & other muppets like 'fair bump' (which even blind Freddy could see it wasn't) are not the ones who have lost a great teammate and friend to the worst injury imaginable to any footballer.......

Waafl tribunal is a joke and their investigations even more so

You can't rely on them to either make a correct decision or even get the correct punishment

I obviously didn't see the incident so don't want to comment whether it was fair or not but I would ask why didn't the canning vale umpire make a match day report or issue a yellow

I can see why the cwp ump wouldn't have but why didn't the canning vale ump do something on the day

This isn't a shit stirring comment just wondering, there perhaps is a good reason he didn't (couldn't see the incident fully from his position or got caught up in making sure the player was ok or something else) but I do believe that some club umpires are not fulfilling their duty of care to protect the players. And I am not saying it happened in this incident at all.
