MrM again had an exam so sorry for the lateness. I know some people like to read this on their Monday morning smoko but to bad.
Well what a round of upsets we had. Willetton got over Bullcreek for the first win of the year. North Freo suffered their first loss too. Hamersley stopped the Wembley train from rolling on and Maddington pipped Wanneroo at the post.
Well what a fun day MrM had at Wannneroo on Saturday. Everything was good except for a few results.
Our young colts got things under way and it looked like they were going to win the game leading at quarter time in what looked like to was going to be a tough physical match. Sadly the young colts players again fell short. MrM knows for a fact that they read this post so take note. Work on hitting targets and putting your head over the ball and you will win. It's a simple game football.
A nice little war of words erupted after the game which always happens in the colts game. Who knows what they were arguing about, maybe about how shocking young kids haircuts are these days.
Our Reserves were very much depleted with exams and injury and World Cup fever hitting the town it meant we were short a few players. Not to mention players at a summers wedding in Europe. Late minute call ups and pulling players from out of the wood work seemed to work a treat. MrM was again unlucky to miss out on a game I'll keep hitting the track hard in hopes of finally securing a playing spot. The Reserves dominated from the outset but only led by 9 goals at half time. Maddington hadn't actually kicked a goal. It was more of the same in the second half as Wanneroo kicked a few goals.
One Maddington player thought he'd take his frustrations out on a punching bag, that was a Wanneroo players face. He looked pretty proud of himself as he walked off back to his spot. That was the closest he had been to a Wanneroo player all day as he seemed to wander and meander around the field like Robert Bogucki. (What a man he was).
Wanneroo won, not after Maddington kicked two goals much to everyone's disappointment, a pantsing if exactly what that game deserved. But it wasn't to be but Wanneroo still ran out 20 goal winners.
It's no suprise what I did next, I celebrated the win the only way I know how, indulging myself in some hot chips. Of course the Wanneroo canteen obliged and duly gifted me with hot chips. 9/10 as always. Some ask me " why not 10/10 MrM?" Well simply nobody's perfect. Which is why MrM's nickname is Nobody. I am perfection at it's finest.
Does anybody know what price it was paying for a game between Wanneroo and Maddington to involve a red card or 2 red cards? I'm betting it was probably around $1.05 I'll touch on the cards later on.
Wanneroo got off to a good start but both sides struggled to find find the goals early on with some pretty easy chances being missed. It was close throughout the first quarter with the mud pitch at Wanneroo getting a real working over, close contested football. Although mostly inaccurate both teams managed to find the big sticks and settled at a couple of goals a piece at quarter time. The second quarter was much of the same, both sides could get the ball into the forward 50 but it came out straight away. So with both sides struggling to get a move on inside the forward 50 it meant the scores were close at half time with Wanneroo leading by a few points. At this stage we hadn't had a major incident but you could tell it was coming, little niggles everywhere was bound to turn into something more.
Wanneroo came out after half time and kicked a few early goals. Maddington came out after half time and went the knuckle. I'm not saying the boys from Wanneroo are saints, but they didn't start it. It all started when a Wanneroo player was taken high in a contest and fell to the ground. (The umpire missed it, but there was 10 players involved in this contest.)
Whilst the Wanneroo player was gathering himself on the ground a Maddington player ran past, dropped the knee and gave him one in the ribs. Given the umpire didn't see it but could see that the Maddington was aggressive in his remonstration with Wanneroo players who weren't to happy he was given a card and 15 minutes to cool off. Things were heated up and the 6 Maddington supporters that were in attendance were quite vocal. Wanneroo led by 2 goals at the final change. Which had opened up to a 3 goal lead after another Maddington player struck a Wanneroo player from behind and 50 metres off the ball right in front of the crowd. Luckily the boundary umpire saw the incident, ran onto the field and told the umpire what went on and the Maddington player was given his marching orders. Much to the delight of the Wanneroo crowd.
So they were without a ruckman for the remainder of the game.
With 10 minutes to go a Wanneroo player did exactly the same as the Maddington player before and he to was given his marching orders. This got the boys from Maddington up and about and kicked a goal after the 100 metre penalty. Then they kicked the next two with the final one 2 minutes from the final siren as they held on to win by 4 points. A few heated words were exchanged after the game and it led some Maddington faithful to say "I can't wait till you come to our ground". MrM just hopes your hot chips are good.
Maddington didn't win the game. Wanneroo lost it. This could be quite pivotal by the seasons end as everything could come down to the wire.
Unfortunate but always next week to get better.
