Some interesting results in this past round. Wembley defeated the unbeaten North Fremantle. Collegians got up over Bullcreek and Maddington upset Hamersley.
Apologies for my late write up. MrM had an important exam yesterday and was preparing for it during the last few days. In reality I have just been sitting in the couch and doing SFA.
It's always a pleasant trip when you have to venture down to a location South of the River. MrM heard that Kelmscott hadn't been doing hot chips lately so I was a little reluctant to attend.
Arriving just in time for the colts game I saw that it was going to be a physical game from the outset. Richmond obviously trained with Kelmscott during the week as both teams seemed to go the knuckle from the start. A few players made the man the objective and not the ball which MrM never likes. Get the ball and you will be rewarded. Kelmscott were leading up until the last quarter when Wanneroo hit the front for a brief period. Ahead by 7points Wanneroo let the lead slip and lost by 6 points as Kelmscott kicked 2 goals in 2 minutes to win on the final siren. A tough loss for the young colts but they continue to learn and get better.
MrM does as he always does and seeks out the canteen in search of the deep fried goodness that is a hot chip. I saw a customer walking out with chips that's looked quite good. Thick cut and looking nice and crispy. What I didn't know was you had to wait at least 30 minutes just to get said golden crispy potato. I also order a Hamburger, which was just a meat patty onion and cheese, MrM was left underwhelmed what promised to be a a grand occasion it filtered down to be a fizzer. If you ask MrM's previous potential MrsM's they may say the same thing. Overall I'll give 6/10 you lost me with the Hamburger and the chips weren't to bad but MrM waits for nobody. So you upset me.
I eventually got out in time to witness our reserves side get off to a slow start start, again short on numbers as some players decided to not make the trip down like MrM had done. I can report MrM was very close to getting a game but like a good person handed his jumper over to a young colts player who made a difference, taking a one handed pluck and kicking a good goal. After the slow start Wanneroo kicked in to gear and never looked back. With a few players coming back next weekend they may improve also.
I was looking forward to a much anticipated grand final rematch. Kelmscott were ahead from the outset. Number 17 from Kelmscott probably had 20 touches in the first quarter alone as they skipped out to a 2 goal lead by quarter time. Wanneroo battled all day to get back into the contest, but some inaccurate goal kicking cost them the lead heading into half time with number 17 still killing it.
Even after a Kelmscott player left the game due to differences of opinion with another player they still came out after half time and played some good football. With pace all over the ground that Wanneroo couldn't match. Down by almost 5 goals at 3 quarter time Wanneroo worked hard to get back into the contest but it wasn't to be as Kelmscott held on to win by 20 points. Even though a player kicked 8 goals, (the second big haul in as many weeks against Wanneroo) number 17 was BOG for me,
All in all quite disappointing, but I'm sure next week at home the troops from Wanneroo will bounce back and be ready to go.
