Well another Round done and dusted. A few shock results. Sorry for the delay in the write up, other activities have gotten the better of MrM's time.
I enjoyed the lovely trip up to Collegians on Saturday, luckily MrM was smart enough to bring a jacket to the game as I nearly tore a hole in my shirt with my frozen nipples with the cold breeze that was blowing at Dalkeith Oval.
I was expecting 3 "Simons" from Wanneroo on Saturday but I was left disappointed. I was also expecting a decent canteen and facilities but I was again let down.
The young colts were beaten by a Collegians team that included 15 guys with the worst haircuts MrM has ever seen. Wanneroo started out well but in the end the team that was willing to bend over and pick up the football was the team that won. If you're not willing to pick up the ball how can you expect to win a game of football. I'm sure the young colts players will continue to work hard as a team and improve each week with 2 very winnable games coming up.
The Reserves were depleted from the outset with last minute call ups and a colts player having to double up. They also started well but in the end it just wasn't enough to get over the line, even with a comeback bigger than John Farnham's it wasn't the spark they needed to get the win. MrM hopes the comeback tour he witnessed wasn't a one off show and that we can have a farewell tour for the remainder of the season.
Mr Mysterious day was about to go from and to worse when I ventured to The Canteen or I think it was called "Daves Deli". Well if Rob Broadfield or Gail Williams (Google who they are) visited this so called Deli then they wouldn't get any score above 2/20. No hamburgers, NO HOT CHIPS, no sausage rolls (sold out) no decent food on offer, just a pie and a hot dog. I went to purchase a powerade from the bar, ALL GONE. Canteen gets 2/10 from me. 2 points for service zero points for anything else.
Our league side followed the theme of the day and started off well but fell into the trap of thinking that this game might be to easy for them. Wanneroo and Collegians went goal for goal but after the first quarter that's where it stopped.Collegians played well in the second quarter and it looked like they would burst the game open. A little scuffle broke out between two players with the Collegians crowd getting stuck into the Wanneroo player for the rest of the game. Not sure how the crowd found out the Wanneroo players name, if it was from the team sheet that the Collegians Manager may have given them then that's no good.
Collegians were leading at half time but I knew Wanneroo would come out firing in the second half.
Sadly it wasn't to be as Wanneroo didn't come out to play as I expected. 2 shoulder injuries to Wanneroo players, including a big dislocation meant we were down to 2 players on the bench. After a nice rev up from the coach at 3 quarter time it seemed to have a minor effect with Wanneroo kicking the first goal of the last but again Collegians came back.
A little melee broke out in the middle of the field, I won't go into to much detail (basically due to tribunal hearings still to take place, I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's chances) however plenty of fists were flying around and 2 Wanneroo players were given Red Cards. I thought both were warranted and deserved but I can't work out how no Collegians players were given any cards. The situation wasn't helped by the Collegians crowd as they were vocal and inciting more action. They were armed with ugly haircuts and vodka cruisers, they were a really tough lot. Luckily the Collegians boys that were supporting didn't want to come fight as most of us feared, as they soon retreated and found comfort in each other's arms.
MrM doesn't like to complain, but if you're going to let your club members break the law then you'd need to have a look at yourself and change. Young players drinking outside the licensed area. Sitting to close to the boundary line. No to mention the goal post padding that wouldn't protect anybody if they ran into it.
Hopefully it rains when Collegians come to Wanneroo as I heard that they supplied no shelter for Wanneroo, we had to provide our own and grab more chairs than the 4 they put out.
With no players left on Wanneroo's bench and some players battling injuries on the ground Collegians ran away with the game. Many Wanneroo players let the team down on the weekend so hopefully they can rebound and play bigger roles later in the year. Or maybe a MrM comeback is what they need to kick into gear.
I wouldn't mind hearing from some others. As much as I like talking to myself I am open to discussions.
