Round one results are in. Mr M didn't include goal kickers listed on the WAAFL Match Day results because he is not a fan of individual accolades. Congratulations to those who had a win in round one. Let's end the season now...
A few upsets according to some people. Hamersley spitting in the face of those who suggested it could be a long season. Collegians looked life they had a tough game. Other peoples choice for MOTR was a blowout.
My choice for MOTR was decided late in the day in the final few minutes...
Rule number 1= Listen to Mr Mysterious. All people are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Wanneroo v Wembley.
Colts = pathetic.
The Wembley Wombles came to play. Wanneroo did not. A young team from Wanneroo can only get better from here on in.
Reserves= blowout.
Wembley's ball use and time they had to execute their skills was the real difference. Probably didn't miss a target all day.
CANTEEN= Mr M Ropeable.
I implored teams before the start of the season to have hot chips. I pleaded with people to get deep friers working. I begged for you to satisfy my need of the deep fried golden potatoes. Is this a ploy to get me feeling out of my comfort zone at away games? Like only supplying cold water in the showers? Or 1 ply toilet paper?
Come on opposition teams. Improve.
Having said that, my ham sandwich was quite tasty.
League= Wanneroo having a Simon
Game started with both teams showing great pressure around the football and an easy possession was a rarity. Like the two grades before Wembley was a well polished team hitting targets often. But more often than not they had a Wanneroo player breathing down their necks.
Wembley were leading throughout the first quarter kicking the first 3 goals before Wanneroo pegged two goals back.
The second quarter was like the first, lots of pressure and Wembley using theball well. With Wanneroo fighting back with a few late goals. Wembley's ruckman was running along the wing, before being shot down by a sniper on top of a light tower. #9 from Wembley got a yellow card for some front on contact and they were down to 2 men on the bench.
The third quarter believe it or not was like the first half. Lots of pressure, (great to keep it up on a hot day) Wanneroo were pegging back the margin and playing good team football.
Entering the fourth, Wanneroo was down by 2 points, kicked the first 3 goals and never looked back. #9 from Wembley got another yellow. Another Wembley player was shot by the sniper and they kicked a few late goals to reduce the margin.
Good start to the season. Good to see we get a week off.
